The officiating was really terrible. specially the center referee who hated Chamizo for whatever reason. how the hell he gave 2pts to Burroughs for that last second action ?! even a kid who read wrestling rules knows that for a takedown 5 parts of your opponent should touch the mat. Chamizo was on his four. even though I also have my doubts about Burroughs's TD in middle of 2nd period and also Chamizo's 4pts throw near the end of the match. both wrestlers lost their challenges early in the match and nobody could challenge those crazy actions near the end. that was a very interesting match between two great wrestlers.

that was a clear goal at the end. what a shame.

AVC invented a new stupid/crazy format for all its competitions. they seed teams based on previous competitions. top 3 teams in Group A. next 3 in Group B .... and then everybody enter the knockout round. for example during the Asian Women's Club Champs most teams didn't know who is the their next opponent until they get the official schedule the night before the match but now we have Asian U20 Champs in Bahrain. again with the same crazy format but also with full of surprises. Japan for the first time ever failed to even enter top 8 because they lost to Chinese Taipei which also lost to Thailand but we will have Iraq in semifinal !! they just beat China funny note: Malaysia finished last despite winning a match vs Maldives ! and Maldives will finish 22nd without a single win thanks to this super crazy format.

I have to read all the qualification rules carefully to have a better prediction. for examples in sports like Table Tennis or Cycling it will depend on the qualification rules. for example I know we won't get 3 free quotas in Cycling anymore. so I prefer to wait after the Asian Games (where we bring all we have to the competition) to have a better prediction. btw I see some users expect few quotas in Karate, you guys should really read the qualification rules. this is a world wide sport and only 10 spots available for each event. it will be extremely hard to qualify. Iran is a powerhouse in this sport but still I will be VERY happy with only 3 quotas.
-
U mean in details for each sport ? or the general schedule ? you can find all of them here http://www.tpenoc.net/?p=17475 TPE NOC official website is always great in publishing official documents
-
thanks. now this makes sense . that's a shame though. but that's something we (Iranians) have to live with and this is not going to change anytime soon.

I have a question here, Can they predict the draw before announcing the pools ? is it purely based on the world ranking ? if yes do they get the list of registered fencers before the competition to predict anything ?! because I know when the pools are out, withdrawing from the competition means you also can't participate in team event. that wasn't an old injury. they would bring Fotouhi instead and even if that was a last minute injury we should still see his name in the list like all those Congolese fencers. it doesn't make sense after all. not a big deal though as you said Round of 32 or max 16 is the best we should expect from him. but still that was surprising for me. but you might be right, I know they care more about the world team ranking because of the Olympic qualification. to keep Iran in top 8. I know it's still early for the Olympic but as long as you are high in WR you get easier opponents in early rounds and it's easier to keep the ranking.

unbelievable funny mistake by the organizers. they just forgot UAE and Palestine during the men's football draw no re-draw. Palestine is now added to group A and UAE to group E

and Iran lost to Georgia ! this reminds me of losing to China in Asian Champs final which was another "Golden opportunity" . it seems our Sabre team is not "good" anymore. they didn't lose to average teams like Georgia and China for 3-4 years and now they are losing twice in a row.
-
looks like a golden chance for Iran to enter the semifinal. even though Georgia is no easy after beating USA but still Iran will be favorite here. even though they still have to beat one "big team" for a medal which is unlikely but even a 4th place will be good. btw Iran actually has 4 sabre fencers there. so the question is why Rahbari didn't participate in individual event ?! another possible Israel draw maybe
-
yeah he thinks he is the only one allowed to make "empty threats" (or maybe not that much empty ?!) Iranian officials are master in empty stupid threats lol but that "mother of all wars" from Rouhani was something new. btw the idiot knows nothing about Iran, I'm quite sure he can't find the country on the map. and that makes things unpredictable. hard to use a laughing icon here since we are talking about the future of my country here.
-
another 15-14 loss to an eventual medalist maybe next year
-
Two of Iranian girls made it to the main draw in women's sabre. that looks like a no big deal in general (because world champs is usually easier than World Cups in earlier rounds because of max 4 fencers per country rule) but apparently this is the first time ever for Iranian female fencers ! even though I don't trust Iranian media but it's hard to check older results. we used to participate in Olympics in women's foil but that was without qualification. btw looks like no chance for a world medal this year again, Abedini and Pakdaman will run into each other (if they win 1st round) and the winner has a long road to the medal with two Koreans, Anstett and Homer in the same bracket. and I wonder why they send only 3 male sabre fencers ! this already ruined their chance in team event. with 3 fencers and one of them is Baher ! once Iran lost the world bronze to Romania back in 2016 only because of him.
-
well he is the reason Netherlands or Italy (or maybe both) missed the world cup remember his unbelievable mistake in Sweden
-
yeah and they didn't even need that. Belgium could not create anything dangerous against solid France defense
-
well yeah Iranian media talk about it everyday specially when Cakir is assigned for one of the semifinals. but I'm not sure yet. that would be nice to have some Iranians in the final. since Iran will never play in a World Cup final. btw he is not a nobody, he was in Olympic final. AFC Asian Cup final. AFC champions league final and FIFA World Club Cup final. almost every possible final for an Asian referee. and he didn't have to use VAR so far so I guess that won't be a wrong decision but still who knows
-
I really don't think that's possible. just not Iranian thing to rely much on the Iranian diaspora , only very few athletes born/raised outside of Iran managed to have success. or inspire the rest for something new. I think the only way is someone makes Ice rinks here. btw I just took a look at their website and they are a member of ISU and also IIHF alongside with FIRS. quite busy as a single federation
-
You still need Ice Rink for that. don't you ? either in your country or you need someone to sponsors you having long term camps outside the country .none of them are possible for now in current situations. sports not in Olympics or Asian Games program won't get money from the government. PS: Roller sport is in this year AG program but only with two events and that's just a one time thing. and the Skating federation here couldn't even convince the NOC to send them to Jakarta.
-
not a "thing" . just another sport people don't really care about and never makes the headlines. but at least they have a separate federation called "Skating Federation" makes them a bigger "thing" than likes of Baseball at least ! there is no Ice Rink here. and nobody really cares about the "Winter Olympics" to think seriously about moving the whole sport to the ice !

Actually Iran won the men's individual compound gold medal but Yeah India is also very good in compound and will hurt from dropping compound events. as I said Iran will win more or less the same number of medal. 20 gold medals was enough for 4th place in 2010 and 21 was enough for 5th place in 2014 and there was a good margin between Iran and 6th place Thailand but I think this time that number of gold medals won't be enough for top 5 !! Thailand will win lots of golds with these new sports. Pencak Silat alone will give 7-8 gold medals to Indonesia and probably 3-4 to Thailand. and Thailand is pretty good in Paragliding. so I think Thailand has a good chance to even challenge Kazakhstan for 4th place. Thailand is also good in women's martial arts. and now China is banned. Thailand will also dominate the women's weightlifting. and Sambo and Kurash will give so many gold medals to Central Asian countries. Kurash is the national sport of Uzbekistan. for example these new sports won't be good for you guys in India, I might be wrong but I can't see any gold medal for India in all these new sports. and dropping some shooting events will hurt India even more. 1 China 2-3 Korea, Japan 4-5 Kazakhstan, Thailand 6-8 Iran, Indonesia, Uzbekistan 9-11 India, Chinese Taipei, North Korea
-
I can analyze Iran's chance sport by sport or even athlete by athlete but what will be long and boring for other users. but in summary we won 21 gold medals in 2014 and 20 in 2010. I expect more or less the same this time. probably a bit less because two of our top sports wrestling and Taekwondo are not in great situation. still some of these new sports. mostly Sport CLimbing and Kurash can make up for that. even in weightlifting we could win more golds because of suspensions of China and Kazakhstan. here is my prediction about the number of gold medals for Iran 4-5 in Wrestling 2-3 in Weightlifting 2-3 in Karate 1-2 in Taekwondo 1-2 in Rowing 1 in Sport Climbing 1 in Wushu 1 in Athletics 1 in Kurash 1 in Volleyball 2-3 in Other sports, Shooting, Basketball, Canoeing, Archery, Fencing, Judo, Cycling, Jujitsu
-
well yeah. there are so many extra events . specially this year. Indonesia completely ruined the competition by adding Bridge, Pencak Silat, Paragliding, Dragon Boat and Jet Ski ! we also have Sambo, Kurash and Ju-jitsu. I would drop all of them plus Soft Tennis . the only good addition IMO is Sport Climbing. but even in Sport Climbing, we won't have a normal 6 events program. we will have combined event, speed and speed relay ! guess why ? because Indonesia is only good in speed events ! there are so many bad things in this current program. they dropped 3 heaviest weight in Boxing !! 75kg will be heaviest weight in Boxing !! they also wanted to drop super heavy weight in Weightlifting and Karate but at least this time the Asian Federation didn't let them . another funny thing is we will have team compound events but not individual events !!! I never heard such thing, having the team event but not the individual event !! we have the same situation in Paragliding Cross-country events ! but the biggest change is in Shooting program, we used to have team events for all individual events. that was a good idea to drop them all. China and Korea will lose lots of easy gold medals. still China, Korea and Japan will be in top 3. even though this time Japan probably stands a chance to surpass Korea. but it will be hard to predict the rest of the table because of so many new events we will have. I believe Kazakhstan is still the favorite for the 4th place . I won't surprise if Indonesia or most probably Thailand beat the rest for the 5th place. the new events are mostly good for these two countries plus Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Team sports draw http://aroundtherings.com/site/A__63931/Title__COR-makes-debut-in-Asian-Games-draw/292/Articles and we will have this COR (unified Korean team) idea in women's basketball. they have a good chance to medal. we will see this stupid COR idea in medal table I wonder what format they want to use in volleyball with 6 groups ! AVC is inventing weird formats recently.

I just finished watching the match, I think Piroddu will remember this for a while, he gave up two takedowns both of them on his own attack. he could easily score on both but instead he gave up points ! I think the first action was definitely a 2 and not 4. cuz the action started on the ground. that wasn't a 4pts throw. and the last action was also just one point pushout . that was no way a takedown. they used to penalize these kind of actions as fleeing with 2pts + caution but if I'm not wrong the new rules say 1pts + caution ! (they change the rules day to day so even for me it's hard to be up to date about the rules ) but I didn't understand what happened after the challenge , they removed the caution and gave the challenge thing back to the Italian coach !! if their challenge was wrong (which it was) they should gave another point to the Uzbek guy. and yeah success in cadet level doesn't necessarily mean success in Junior/Senior levels. specially in Greco because Greco is less technical. but this kid has the talent, i believe he has a Greco background, he needs more experience in freestyle competition to not lose the single leg twice. this semifinal was his match to lose.
