his name is just Alipour. obviously someone forgot to add a "space" between two parts of his surname. the 2nd part of surnames are often (99% cases) to be ignored for Iranian names. nobody in Iran knows him by anything but Reza Alipour. it happens a lot with Iranian names. that's why sometimes you see crazy long names. the Asian Games was the first time I was watching a combined competition (maybe the first combined event ever in an official competition ?!) and surprisingly for me they multiply the scores (which I wasn't aware of) ! so there is a huge difference if you win one of those 3 events instead of finishing 2nd. for example if you win something and finish 10th in another one you will get 10 negative points. but if you finish 2nd and 9th you will have 18 neg points ! huge difference. and in the final round "speed event" was a kind of knockout system. not a "qualification system". we had a 7th place finish in Jakarta in combined event and she lost the final by the narrowest possible margin ! I wonder if it means there is a chance (even slim) for Olympic qualification . how good are Asian climbers in this combined event ?!

thanks nice job personally I value medals in old AG sports the same as Olympic sports. like Sepaktakraw, Wushu, Kabaddi, Bowling etc. they had been in AG program for decades and they are very popular in some regions of Asia, but I would like to see the medal table without medals in stupid new events like Paragliding, Pencak Silat, Jet Ski, Bridge, Dragon Boat, Poomsae taekwondo, Jujitsu, Sambo, Kurash and even roller skating, I have doubts about Sport Climbing and Skateboard, they will be in the Olympics program at least for 2020.

maybe there was no TV coverage for Sambo !? this is stupid sport btw. same as Jujitsu and Kurash. hard to believe we had all of them in the program ! none of them should be there. I just wanted to see a bit of Sambo. that's probably the only sport here I had no idea about scoring etc. (beside bridge of course) that was 23 August. btw I have PDF official reports of all sports in case you are interested

wow that was quick , great job. even though for Gymnastics final they showed commercials when our Gymnast Keikha was performing ! can I ask for more ? what about Speed relay finals ? also I would like to see some Sambo finals.

The men's water polo final was quite dramatic too ! Japan (which is a better team at the moment) was leading 7-4 comfortably in 3rd period but then Kazakhs scored 4 more goals to win the gold 8-7.quite a surprise result if you compare both teams results against other teams. the last time Japan won the gold was 1970 !! this is the 4th time in past 5 editions they are losing the final narrowly !

but it seems he is a tough coach. more of half of the "old team" could not work with him because they were a bit lazy ! lol but the rest of the team really like him. btw I just watched the match again on youtube channel 2 (which is still available if you take it few minutes back), specially in last minutes and the penalties. well the luck was in our side this time. the Chinese GK almost saved one of the penalties which could finished the match for China . he saved the ball but then send it to the net himself ! and their celebration was like winning the Olympic gold. and it wasn't just our first medal in Water Polo after 44 years but our first medal in aquatic sports after 44 years !

That was my prediction before the Games. well I was predicting 17-23 gold medals and we won 20 ! even in details my prediction wasn't that bad. only Rowing failed to reach the minimum I was expecting. 5 Wrestling 2 Weightlifting 2 Karate 2 Taekwondo 2 Wushu 2 Athletics 1 Sport Climbing 1 Kurash 1 Volleyball 2 in other sports (Kabaddi)

well this is the end for Iran. 20-20-22 ! a sad finish since we lost the basketball final once again. that was the last chance for our golden generation we had a 16pts lead in middle of 2nd quarter but all of a sudden they stopped playing and all Chinese players became Stephen Curry and scored back to back 3s. volleyball won the gold easily without dropping a single set.

and Ciric deserved lots of credit for that. there was a huge gap between top 3 and Iran in water polo, they worked hard specifically for this match vs China

Indonesia cheated A LOT in these Games but in their defense that rule existed even before. for example South Korea entered in all 6 events while other countries had to pick only 2 out 3 for each gender but Indonesia made a little change here. they made it 4 men's and 2 women events. with each country entering only 2 in 4 men's events. there were chance for Indonesia to find a event without both Thailand and Malaysia, and they took advantage of it.

today we lost everywhere but bronze medal in water polo made my day ! what a drama. Iran was leading 8-7 but lost the lead in last 30 seconds. and then in penalties they had to go far and Iran won 8-7 in penalties and 16-15 in general ! this bronze medal and Alamian's bronze in table tennis are very special for me. value much more than cheap medals in some of those nonsense sports.

and I already feel like I lost somebody this time I had this feeling 3-4 days before the end. mostly because our favorite sports were done early. now we have to wait 2 more years for the Olympics ! that was fun. as usual even though the official website was terrible and as usual certain things in favor of the host but still I enjoy it very much as I always do. I will write about my good and bad memories later. because there is still one day to go with couple of important finals ! btw. looks like we will finish 6th in the medal table with Uzbekistan being in all 7 men's boxing finals. and with that Uzbek guy in charge of AIBA. there is a big chance they win all 7 gold medals and surpass Iran in the medal table. Kazakhstan most probably can't do that anymore.

I was about to write exactly the same thing. the winner of 2014 edition in Incheon didn't even make it to the Round 2 !

thanks. that was helpful. even in Iran after few minutes of being in shock they said the call wasn't wrong, of course Mollaei himself never accepted this. Mollaei's coach got rejected in another match and they had to put some random guy in place of the coach, I think having his coach would help him in last 20 seconds. this defeat still hurts me, it would be our first gold medal in Judo after 16 years ! and would be my 2nd best moment of the Games. that was really sad a big guy like him crying like a baby. even in Rio 2016 he lost to the eventual gold medalist by having one more shido just because he disposed his judogi without referee's permission ! to make things worse. our other Judoka today lost by ippon to An Chang-rim again in the last second !

I have a question for you guys , Judo experts. I used to know Judo rules better but IJF changes the rules almost every year and there are some unwritten rules . take a look at this match https://tamasha.com/v/Vl5md what do you think about the last Shido ?! I know it's not hard to justify that but is this a common thing to give 3rd Shido in last second for such a non-obvious situation ? in a gold medal match ? Personally I think Shido wasn't technically wrong but it wasn't just fair. I saw so many times Judokas go extremely defensive in last few seconds with no penalty, the Kazakh guy won the gold medal without doing anything special the entire 4 minutes.

oh my. 3rd shido AFTER the match !!! Mollaei even celebrated the gold medal for a minute or two. what the hell was that. how come an experienced judoka like him can't just kill 2-3 seconds when the Kazakh guy was worthless and couldn't do a thing. this is the worst moment of AG for me. this one is hard to swallow. of course if it was the opposite they would never give Iran the gold but I blame Mollaei first. what a pity. first Barimanloo losing with 1 second to go and now Mollaei with 0 second ! the Judo curse will never leave us.

pity there is no TV coverage for Canoeing. we had some interesting finals today morning. 3 medals for Iran but no gold as expected we are good in all events but not "very good" in any of them to win the gold. glad for Hedieh Kazemi, this is the first ever silver for Iranian girls in canoeing. but I'm so happy for Saeid Mollaei, despite being the top seed I had no hope for him but he showed me that he is not World #1 (or #2) for nothing. he secured our first medal in Judo, I hope for a gold later today. he is known in Iran as "bronze man" since he won a bag full of bronze from international competitions but seriously only Iranians are capable of losing a match with only and only 1 second to go ! Barimanloo was doing fine with the Korean and things were going into the extra time with Korean guy being more tired but then bang. Ippon with 1 second to go

I was checking some stats and Ehsan Haddadi is only the 2nd athlete in history of Asian Games to win the same event 4 times in a row ! (Shigenobu Murofushi won hammer throw 5 times in a row) and considering Haddadi's age, at least one more AG is possible for him. of course Svetlana Radizvil can makes it 4 next time. that was her 3rd title. but this was the first time Ehsan crying after winning the gold. which was a very easy win actually. he had tough situations in past 2-3 years. he almost went to jail before Rio Olympics. had so many surgeries. lost his coach etc. I lost respect for him because of those charges but maybe he was innocent after all . the final verdict never made it into the news. but he is a true patriot and that's why I like him. he had some nice Persian poems about Iran written on his shirt in today's competition.

don't worry we are almost done with our gold medal chances. I'm only confident about one more , we also have some small chances here and there but I expect only one more. max 2. we had our chances to win more gold earlier in Karate and wrestling, specially in Karate. I really think we could 3-4 more golds. North Korea won 8 gold medals in weightlifting ! they took advantage of China's suspension very good. I think they would lose more than half of these gold medals to China in a normal situation.

very low level competition in discus throw. Haddadi easily won his 4th back to back AG gold medal. with one more gold in Kurash, now we have 19. we need two more to equal 21 what we had last time in Incheon.

India was really impressive in Table tennis with two medals so far TT is one of my favorite sports. this is great to see a different name in medal table beside all those East Asian countries btw you also finished 2nd in Asian Junior Championships a week ago in team event. looks like a very successful program in Table tennis.
