I am impressed by the the INDIAN lawn bowls teams have been doing well ... no medals till now but came agonisingly close to winning against malta in the womens fours quarterfinals....Incidently they had won against them in the group .. The mens pairs had also done well ......................... And do remember the competition in this event would be the best in the world by far as lawns is played mainly in the commonwelth games In India this sport is unknown so great achievement....
-
both are amazing achievements
-
this has been the best multi event games till now for me ....... In all the sports ( barring a couple ) the Indians have been pouring their heart out..... and performing upto or beyond expectations Outperforming teams have been in TT and Badminton ....... 3 golds very unexpected !!!! Incidentally - even the lawn bowls teams have been doing well ... no medals till now but came agonisingly close to winning against malta in the womens fours quarterfinals.... Incidently they had won against them in the group .. The mens pairs had also done well ......................... And do remember the competition in this event would be the best in the world by far as lawns is played mainly in the commonwelth games

wow ....wow and wow

Great games for India ..... they are just dealing in gold .........

India and Canada seem to head to head at this stage in the contest on golds with India well behind on the overall medals .... Just curious about what you feel will be the gold tally for Canada at the end This is a slightly optimistic tally for india as of now as per my best estimates Gold Silver Bronze Atheletics 1 2 2 Badminton 2 3 3 Boxing 5 3 2 Hockey 0 1 1 Lawn bowls 0 0 1 shooting 8 3 10 squash 0 0 1 Table tennis 3 2 1 Weightlifting 5 1 4 powerlifting 0 1 1 wrestling 5 2 5 This will total 29 gold but removing the optimism still should be at close to 25-26 gold ..... total expecting only 70-75 medals though for India ..... But higher percent of gold seems sure ...... weightlifting , Badminton , shooting and wrestling we have the world class players....... Table tennis we are doing unexpectedly good in team but our best events are in the three doubles
-
and when I say chines it is because singapore have imported a few chinese to make their team world class ..... goof to see India Defeat them
-
What an unbelievable performance by Batra ..... This also incidentally opens up the womens singles ( monika has beaten the chinese and singaporeans ) ........ and also the womens doubles and the mixed doubles ( a non olympic event ) so may be interesting to see this .........
-
also a truly wow for punam ...i did not expect her to gold today
-
truly an outstanding performance .... and based on this I feel we have a great chance in both singles and doubles !!!!!! and mixed doubles !!!!!
-
Great start to India in weightlifting ...hope we continue in the heavier weights in with pradeep and women with punam .... but Indias top lifters have already finished
-
great !!!

highlights of day two 1. Sanjita chanu of course - impressive lift but well within her PB , she has done better lifts at the commonwealth championship ....... but possibly with no competition she took it cool unlike mirakhom 2. Deepak Lathers - Bronze ..... slightly lucky with the samoan going for gold or nothing ...... but overall he is just 18 so is a great talent if he just keeps himself going at the same rate could be great prospect in a couple of years ........ possibly even a top 10 in the world kind of lifter in the future....equalled his personal best 295 3. Indian women finally got their dragflick ( 20+ missed penalty corners I think against wales ) challenges out of their way to beat Malaysia in hockey 4. Boxing impressive performances by both amit and naman to reach quarters , If I am now not mistaken we have 3 men ( this includes satish in the 91+ ) and all the 4 women ( who anyway started in the quarters ) in the quarters ,the way things are going we possibly may have all 12 boxers ( 8 men and 4 women ) in the quarters ... the remaining men in the round of sixteen are many of top indian boxers ( Vikas , Manoj , Gaurav and Manish ) and they do not seem to meet any big names in the fray so I feel that all the boxers may reach quarters , which would be a great accomplishment but the quarters are going to be tougher ......... 5. Lawn bowls fours India doing quite well for a sport which is not at ll known in India .. especially Mens fours where I feel they will reach the quarters .. the pairs team did fairly well but is I think now out of the quarters 6. Joshna Chinnappa retrieving a dismal show by squash players .... she is in good form and has reached the quarters but is coming up to the world 4th ranked joelle king ... may be difficult for her 7. both aruna ( 6th ) and pranati ( 4th ) reaching the finals of the vault ...... missing dipa here the scores have not been very high and possibly she could have a clear gold prospect at least ..... but still I feel a medal is possible ;-) Bummer of the day definately saraswati rout ..... looked out of sorts .... missed all three lifts in the 58 ....womens .... after the way the weightlifting team has been doing............. was expected a medal possibly silver from her .... but real crappy show by her dipika pallikal - not a great show by her , she was against a good player alison waters but expected more resistance from her even if she lost ( this also reduces hope of a medal in womens double a bit ??? ) none of the cyclists have done well ( not a true bummer as we did not have much hope in these events ) ...still Indias best hope is yet to come 500m sprint with deborah

highlights of day 1 for India ...... 1. Mirabhai to beat her PB without much competition , this was the worlds best for the last two years which will possibly position her well for the asians as well , and her form was impeccable 2. Gurraj's silver 3. Rakesh patra leading the rings scores in the apparatus in Gymnastics ... 4. Srihari breaking the national record in the 100m Back stroke 5. manoj Kumars good form Bummer of the day 1. Indian womens loss to wales ..... tragic they were in a good state but this is a wake up call may not be too late

I think it was a great achievement to reach the quarters ...going beyond may be difficult .................
-
yes I am not so worried about the fact that they did not reach the finals ....I am saddened by the scores ...'.... 407 by ayonika is so low she was shooting at the universality level scores ....BHU kunzang for example shot a 405 ...apurvi was just fractionally better ........ looks like the over expectation and mental pressure syndrome is at work ................... .

Artistic Gymnastics at the Summer Olympic Games 2016

@thiago_simoes any predictions on the vaults -
Look ahead for the olympics day 1 - Huge day ( see Home page @gvaisakh has given all the timings ) 1.ROWING Dattu in the qualification ...... three rowers from each round will go through to qualification / remainining go thru to repechage there are 6 rowers in the heats . ( Heat 1 ) rower Time Time Luigi Teilemb Vanuatu Juan Carlos Cabrera Mexico Armandas Kelmelis Lithuania Ángel Fournier Cuba Dattu Baban Bhokanal India Jaruwat Saensuk Thailand ..India should easily beat vanuatu and thailand ...the cuban , lithuanian and mexican would probably finish in the first three with the Cuban first without a doubt ( he is world championship silver medalllist ) , the lithuanian ( 2nd most probably - european junior champion , lithuanian star rower in single sculls was injured and replaced a month before olympics ) and mexican may fight it out ,,,,,,can dattu sneak in a third possible but unlikely ...most probable result 4th .....best case 3rd ( he can beat the mexican possibly ) .................

Archery draw - falls by luck to be very favorable for Indian women Womens draw as discussed above no koreans till the finals which is good but after that it is left to the players to play with concerted focus ...... Deepika our best hope does not face any of the koreans till the semis................. she has the formidable YT Tan of TPE in her quarter and her first big challenge may be ITA sartori in the round of 64 ....................If she holds her nerve together .............she seemed very nervous in the ranking round ...she was in the top 5 in the first half and leading at one point in time ( but a M which means a 0 pulled her down.................. with a shocking 5 ...no top archer does a 5 ...so she just needs to focus her nerves ) L Majhi faces a relatively unknown SVK archer and if she plays her usual game should win , she will probably face a chinese Qi ( world 23 ) in the next round, should be tight but could progress , then she would face either aida roman silver medalllist london or wu ( world 20 ) ......she can proceed further ...but she will need a miracle to cross Ki Bo bae of korean in the quarters ...still a reasonable draw for someone who has come 43 in the rankings in the qualification Laishram bombayla has a easier first round against AUT unknown but the next round may be her last as she faces Lin shih chia ( world no 10 ) from taipei in the round of 32 ...if she survives that she may face MEX world 18 valencia , if she gets past these formidale obstacle she faces Choi korean number 1 in the quarters ...I hope she can hold her nerve in the first couple of matches
-
I personally was shocked by deepikas meltdown ...a 5 / a Miss .....you cannot do this at this level ...and she is the best of our archers ..... and to do this after leading the three koreans was terrible .......bombayla was incredible and did as well as she could have I believe , again lakshirani has a great reputation but today she was under par hope she can hold it together
