  1. What happened to this prediction made some 9+ weeks ago?
  2. I hear you and agree, like everyone here, I want the Games to happen. But I'm a little less optimistic today, than I was yesterday that it will happen. Besides this poll you have the WHO report today that COVID is growing exponentially, and then the Guardian editorialized that Japan and the IOC have to ask themselves if the event can be justified. But they did stop short of calling for a cancellation and instead said if they go ahead, the IOC and Japan must ensure that rules are enforced, not just communicated.
  3. http://bit.ly/kyodopoll Still very troubling numbers here for Japanese Government and organizers. Poll released April 11 Want Games cancelled 39.2% Want Games Postponed 32.8% Games should go on 24.5% Doesn't say about the other 3.5%
  4. Yes, Maybe I am being a little too fast on those, but after the week-end she had, she is certainly in the top 2 internationally right now. She's a second faster than anyone else in the 200 and 7 seconds faster than anyone else in the 400. We'll see how Titmus comes back from her injury. I'll take the 200 FS off my list for now.
  5. I'm hesitant only because US lost to Japan in 2008 gold medal game, and of course, Japan will be highly motivated at home and there will only be Japanese fans in the stands. But US should be in the gold medal game.
  6. W Football will be favored, for sure, but USWNT was tied 1-1 with Sweden yesterday. And Sweden eliminated US in Rio in QFs. Plus, I heard that USWNT did not look impressive. I think UK is going to be a tough opponent. M BB, will also be favored, of course, but the make-up of the team matters and US Men Basketball was 7th in 2019 FIBA World Cup. After what has happened this weekend, I should add Swim W 200 FS and 400 FS to the almost certain list.
  7. At first I thought that seems high, but then again there are 33 more events this time than 2016. I always tend to think low, and could foresee as low as 30. Every Games, I think something will happen to take the US under 30 golds, which hasn't happened since 1936. I thought to myself, what are the surest US golds? Be interested to hear other thoughts I'd say W Basketball, W Team Gymnastics, W Ind AA, Swim W 800 and 1500 FS, W 100 Breast, W 200 Back, W 4x200, M & W 4x100 Med. Relay, Athletics 200 m, M 4x400, W 4x400, Mixed 4x400, W 400 hurdles, Wrestling W 76KG, Surfing W.
  8. What quotas specifically did the USOPC give up?
  9. Thanks, got it! I would guess OBS would have camera on each piste, this site just doesn't show it yet.
  10. I've only done a quick look at the grid. How are you able to tell that Judo/Fencing will not have multi-mat coverage? I'm interested to see what they do with Athletics, both TV and streaming. In Rio, they had the morning T&F session, live and complete on MSNBC, TripleCast style, while they would cut in and out for T&F on regular NBC.
  11. The US State Department today gave its strongest hint yet that they are going to make Petra's path to gold a heck of a lot easier, and she will only have to worry about beating Liensberger. 2022 Beijing Olympics: U.S. considering joining boycott, state department says (cnbc.com)
  12. Here a page from a simple spreadsheet I've been working on, set to Eastern US time, so I can get an idea what's going on at any one time. Did this in Feb. 2020, so some of the times may not match exactly, and as we get close (and if it looks more likely that the Games will actually take place), I'll fine tune it a bit.
  13. So your day will basically go from 200 to 1500 then a sleep break. That's about the way it is for the Eastern US when the Games are in Europe. We are going to have to go from 2000 to 900. The trick for me is getting as much sleep as possible after the Opening Ceremony ends at 1000 EDT. Then I begin my nocturnal existence. For me, I've been taking off since 1984, then added the Winter Games in 1998. Its easier when you have been working at home for the last year and will continue that way until at least September. The question for me is do I work on Friday 7/23, or just start my time off that day.
  14. At the World Figure Skating Championships, they have use Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto as the anthem.
  15. I don't think it's stretch to say Scotland will have its own NOC and Olympic team by 2024, 2028 at the latest.
