  1. Seems very unlikely, but we’ll find out next year.
  2. Panziera: For me her winning a medal would be a huge surprise Quadarella: Whether something is disappointing or not depends on your expectations, so I would say maybe your expectations are too high. Wang and Titmus are barely slower than her and much younger, so those two overtaking her wouldn’t be a shock by any means.
  3. Since you mentioned the 1500 m ... didn’t Hassan and Cheruiyot win with a tactic like that at the last world championships?
  4. Which event?
  5. What do you mean with medals CHANCES in swimming?
  6. Hopefully ... (the olympics will take place). At least this time Germany isn‘t as dependant on those two boats to bring home medals, the men‘s eight, the men‘s lightweight double sculls and Oliver Zeidler in the men’s single sculls are all in a good position to medal. Sadly Germany is very bad at translating U20/U23 results to the senior level.
  7. We'll see, german quadruple sculls usually deliver at the olympics. I am confident that at least the women will be back strong. Last year they couldn't compete with their best crew, this year Schultze has been replaced by Nwajide. In 2016 the men also came pretty much out of nowhere to win gold. The men's crew also isn't the same as last year, Piontek has been replaced by Naske (former U20 and U23 world champion in men's single sculls). Out of 11 possible golds at the olympics Germany has won 7 golds in men's quadruple sculls, including the last two, so it would be a huge disappointment if they wouldn't at least medal. Since the introduction of women's rowing in 1976 Germany has always won at least one of the two golds in quadruple sculls, except for 2008. Overall Germany has won 15 out of 22 golds in quadruple sculls (68 %).
  8. This prediction doesn't have much relevance though. It completely ignores Franko Grgić ...
  9. Is there a way to find out if certain songs have been posted before? I guess there is no point to posting the same songs over and over again, so please excuse me if this is the case here.
  10. I think the highlight will be the men’s 400 IM final with possibly an epic battle between Seto and Hagino.
  11. From a German perspective: Men‘s individual sabre (probably our only medal chance on day 1) From an international perspective: Men‘s road cycling (In my opinion this is one of the most unpredictable events of the games and for me it always feels as if the end of the men’s road race is the moment the games actually start) and the judo competition (because those events will probably have the best atmosphere on day 1)
  12. What’s with all the Russian „celebrities“ recently falling out of windows? I remember only a couple of months ago there were reports of at least 3 Russian doctors „falling“ out of windows.
  13. So what exactly is your point and what does it have to do with my previous comment? I find it interesting that a) You admire Schröder for giving up politics to earn a shitload of money (although Merkel killed his political career before that) b) You admire Merkel c) You think that Merkel is actually trying to „fix“ Europe None of this has anything to do with athletics, so maybe we should wrap this up.
  14. I am not surprised that you are confused, we all know that things work differently in Poland. Let me help you: The difference is that in western nations things like that usually get out because there is independent media, on the other hand in the countries you mentioned things like that usually don’t get out unless foreign media shines a light on it. In some countries politics might be able to tell media to go on a crusade, but that’s not how it usually works in the west. The outrage isn’t necessarily about the amount of doping in certain nations, but about how easy it is in certain nations to dope (creating an unlevel playing field) and the fact that the doping program is often coordinated by the state. It is impossible to eliminate doping but you have to give both the athletes (paying back all the prize money with interest rates) and the countries (if more than x athletes are caught within a certain period than that country gets banned from the Olympics) incentives not to cheat.
  15. I absolutely don’t see that happening, it is not difficult to find dirt on nations like Ethiopia, Kenya or Russia, but the Netherlands or GB are way too smart to be caught red-handed.
  16. I think it is pointless to talk about doping based on progression or nationality, I think it’s best to just assume that everyone who can compete for medals on a global stage in certain sports is doped. Personally I am only interested in two things: 1) How can you make sure that it is equally difficult to get away with doping everywhere? 2) What makes the doping program of certain nations (GB, the Netherlands) superior? China and Russia are much bigger than the Netherlands and put much more emphasis on success in sports, but still they never got as good at doping as the Netherlands, so you have to assume that Dutch scientists are doing a brilliant job and I would love to know what methods they developed to enhance the performance of their athletes that much. About Bol: Of course you have to be suspicious about her progression, but at least it is more believable than the progression of Sara Slott Petersen who suddenly improved from 55.6 to 53.9 in 2015 at the age of 28.
  17. Does anyone else think that the ban of Naser might have a huge influence on Miller-Uibo‘s decision on whether to go for the double next year or not? I think with Naser gone she should definitely go for the double.
  18. The Inspiration Games (Diamond League Zurich) are currently live on YouTube for anyone who wants to see some live sports. On the „Wanda Diamond League“ YouTube channel you can also find about 1 hour highlights from 2016 to 2019 of all the Diamond League Meetings (Rabat, Shanghai, London, Stockholm, Paris, Eugene, Rome, Doha). I can also recommend the following videos on the same channel: “World Records in the Wanda Diamond League“ “Epic Moments in Field Events“ “Epic Track Moments“ “Best of the Diamond League 2010-2019“ “Best of Long Distance“ “Best of Middle Distance“
  19. It’s definitely a good show, although of course not on the level of Curb or Seinfeld. My favorite characters were Pierce and the Dean. Obviously Luis Guzman was the secret star of the show ...
  20. I just did some more „research“ and I found something that seems to be the official Olympic film for Rio, it is called „Days of Truce“ and has a playing time of 1:27:54. The other official films are also on the Olympic channel, here are their titles: Beijing 2008 - The Everlasting Flame London 2012 - First Sochi 2014 - Rings of the World PyeongChang 2018 - Crossing Beyond I am currently suffering from „olympics withdrawal syndrome“, those films should help for a day or two. There is also a documentary series called „Road to Glory“ on the Olympic channel that looks interesting.
  21. Thanks, but this isn’t what I was looking for. I saw that there are DVD‘s available on Amazon by the BBC about the London Olympics (900 minutes) and the Rio Olympics (565 minutes) for less than 10 € each, sounds like a good option.
  22. Thanks, funnily enough I found the same video yesterday while searching for longer videos about the olympics. I also found this short video review of the 2016 olympics by the BBC. https://www.sbnation.com/2016/8/23/12605892/bbc-olympic-review-video-rio-2016
  23. Are you sure that it was wind legal?
  24. I loved to watch all of the official Olympic films on YouTube, but sadly I didn’t find an official film for Beijing 2008, London 2012 or Rio 2016. Does anyone know whether those films actually exist? By the way: While searching YouTube i found daily roundups from the 2012 olympics in case anyone is feeling nostalgic ...
  25. Why only till 2036? Maybe he wants to retire just after hosting the Olympics for a last time?
