  1. I think the days of national broadcasters showing multiple streams are over. Ireland was the same. 6-12 streamed events available. I think the Discovery deal may mean everyone is down to 1 or 2
  2. Yes, it seems that if Discovery Plus is available, then the coverage will be on that. If Discovery + is not available in your country, the Eurosport Player will have it I have a Discovery+ subscription (free with Sky TV) so looks like I'm OK (Will also have RTE TV here in Ireland and BBC from the UK)
  3. Can't confirm all the details yet but has never had a team with more than 80 in it and we will be over 100 in Tokyo (having 26 from Hockey and rugby helps...) The most sports we've ever been represented in has been 14 and we're at 19 so far.
  4. They announced a line up of UK presenters yesterday and the press release said "every minute" ofaction would be available on the Eurosport App and Discovery Plus. "Europe wide" was mentioned quietly at the bottom so don't know if it applies completely yet
  5. Mixed news for Tanya Watson in. Oliver Dingley out (so far) @OlympicIRL @Oldira
  6. the NRs in mixed are all pretty soft though as it’s so new? Could be very doable
  7. I think it might rob Sanita Puspure of gold (world champion in 2018 & 2019), I think she’d have won gold in 2020. Now she’s a year old and the Russians are flying in rowing ? It caused our first ever dressage team to disappear due to age, injury and pregnancy (all separate events ) We haven’t had any real bolters qualify and it looks like our young talented track and athletes may miss out anyway Can only really be judged after the games though
  8. Maybe suggest moving the transgender talk out to a new thread and leave the qualification talk to this one?
  9. has gone with the following sports Boxing - 2016, 2012, 1996, 1988 sailing - 2008 equestrian - 2004, 1984 athletics - 2000 swimming - 1992 The last rower was 1976 and we’ve never had a cyclist do it so my (impossible) dream team would be Sanita Puspure and Nicolas Roche for their years of service to Irish sport I’d be fine with medalists from Rio Annalise Murphy and Paul O’Donovan doing it too
  10. Yes, I was thinking relays updated once a week as a qualifying time couldn't be achieved. Makes sense they're updated all the time as points aren't applicable I knew the qualifiers were updated once they reached the OQT
  11. Oh. Didn’t realise that. Thanks for the clarification!
  12. Should be noted that the times are only updated once a week (on Wednesday after noon)
  13. For Martin Kymer is no longer on the list. He’s been replaced by Hurley Long This is a good sign that those on the list are likely to play
  14. I'm not suggesting it won't be a story. I'm just saying your "most hated person in the world" was way over the top. She'll have as many supporters as she will detractors
  15. He limped across the line a second behind the winner so defintely injured
  16. You're vastly over estimating how many people care about womens weightlifting if you think she's going to become the "most hated person in the world" She might become the most famous weightlifter, but that's a pretty low bar to beat
  17. For those who don’t know the IRFU (Irish rugby federation) abandoned sevens for years. They put zero money into it and would not allow any of the professional players (those who play for the 4 provincial/professional teams) to play for the sevens team. In the top 2 tiers of international rugby, Ireland was the only one not to compete at the world sevens level So for this group of players, many of whom have been on the sevens team for years, to overcome that is huge.
  18. rugby 7s joins Taekwondo as new sports for Ireland in Tokyo
  19. Maybe slightly off topic here but all 3 women could win medals and Kurt Walker has a strong chance too. Now of course we still a bit of luck with the draw but it’s still 4 medal chances
  20. It may well do yeah. I think Kellie Harrington should medal but everyone else will be depending on a kind draw With average luck (ie no freak winds or injuries etc) I’d expect 2 rowing medals and hope for more
  21. Speaking of Ireland, they've official named the squad Women's Single sculls (W1x) Sanita Puspure Women's pair (W2-) Monika Dukarska, Aileen Crowley Men's double sculls (M2x) Ronan Byrne, Philip Doyle Men's lightweight double sculls (LM2x) Paul O'Donovan, Fintan McCarthy Women's four (W4-) Emily Hegarty, Fiona Murtagh, Eimear Lambe, Aifric Keogh Women's lightweight double sculls (LW2x) Aoife Casey, Margaret Cremen thinks they have 4 realistic medal shots. One should win gold...
  22. They base it all on historical things like the world championships and European championships. The world cups and qualifiers don’t even register with them. I got 4/1 on the O’Donovan brothers to medal in 2016 when I could only see 4 possible medalists (who finished 1-4 btw) The Russian should be favourite ahead of Sanita
