  1. It was sarcasm. Honestly I think FINA is waiting for the whole Russia issue to be settled plus they are almost as bad as the International Canoe Federation when it comes to publishing things.
  2. There's been an update on her. It looks like FINA made a mistake in inviting her. Link
  3. That graph will likely push Russia to be banned in weightlifting. As for the other sports Russia will likely avoid a blanket ban, but we could see specific athletes getting banned.
  4. Grenada Corey Ollivierre (men's 100m breaststroke) Link Oreoluwa Cherebin (women's 100m butterfly) Link They are starting to get tough now.
  5. Well at least this makes golf look a bit better
  6. Barbados will send 12 athletes No 110m hurdlers qualified at the trials it seems
  7. A chaperone is someone who watches someone overall. This could be due to her age (she's 18) or her religion (Sierra Leone majority are Muslim, though usually it would be with a man) or perhaps for safety if she hasn't done much international travel.
  8. Another Zika related casualty it seems. Must be embarrassing for ITF since they just published an article about him.
  9. True, but I wouldn't be surprised if New Zealand's Olympic Committee doesn't know that. Wrestling is almost non-existent in that country so I doubt there are many experts outside of the wrestling federation, which would prefer to have him compete in order to increase exposure for the country.
  10. Well New Zealand's standard, in general is that the athlete needs to show that they are capable of finishing in the top 16. For wrestling it's easy enough, just like how he qualified he can literally do nothing and reach the round of 16, should he get lucky enough with the draw.
  11. Don't worry athletics is looking to have almost 200 overboard and that's assuming Russia will still be (mostly) banned.
  12. Athletics is in the second half so if Canada has a good/decent first week it may relax them. The pressure will also be on Brianne to medal in heptathlon (unless we get another surprise medal in the 20km walk), which I hope will settle everyone regardless.
  13. Overall I'm hoping for about 4 medals for Canada. Our performance at the World Champs was an almost best case scenario for Canada and I doubt we'll see it again here (if we do succeed we'll easily meet our target of 19 medals). We have bunch of athletes that will finish in the top 8, hopefully we won't fall into the 4th place curse.
  14. Sadly Ian "Captain Canada" Millar will not take part in his 11th Olympics. His daughter Amy will compete though. Team Megan Lane, Collingwood, Ont. (Dressage) Belinda Trussell, Stouffville, Ont. (Dressage) Rebecca Howard, Marlborough, UK (Eventing) Colleen Loach, Durham, Que. (Eventing) Selena O'Hanlon, Kingston, Ont. (Eventing) Jessica Phoenix, Cannington, Ont. (Eventing) Eric Lamaze, Schomberg, Ont. (with Fine Lady 5, Check Picobello Z) Yann Candele, Caledon, Ont. (with Showgirl, First Choice) Tiffany Foster, North Vancouver, B.C. (with Triple X III, Victor) Amy Millar, Perth, Ont. (with Heros)
  15. Football is in an interesting position. It arguably needs the Olympics the least, the sport is already played everywhere and the World Cup is a billion dollar enterprise. Even sports like golf or tennis would like to be part of the Olympics because it spreads the sport (golf went from 100 affiliated nations to about 150 since it was introduced to the Olympics). On the other side because football is so well known and played the Olympics needs (rather, really wants) the sport so it bends to the will of FIFA.
  16. Universality is important to the Olympics, it's the same reason as why we have continental quotas or even maximum quotas for one nation. Of course there's a reason why tripartite nations don't qualify many athletes. Sometimes their choice can be weird, for example if you are going to give Bangladesh an archery quota give it to the men's since he's much better (even among the men which got the quota).
  17. IAAF has updated the qualified relays They have included Russia saying it is conditional on the CAS ruling. Congrats to Ghana for qualifying in the women's 4x100m relay.
  18. UIPM is being slow with its final athlete list. Who are we waiting for?
  19. I see it as Felix correcting IAAF's mistake, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
  20. Honestly it made sense, even ignoring Felix. There's no reason why "obvious doubles" should be overlapped.
  21. Congrats to France. This Olympics would have been good experience for Canada, hopefully this won't derail our chance for a medal in 2020.
  22. According to SwimSwam Haiti will select its first female swimmer though she didn't swim at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships nor does she have the B standard. She will compete with Frantz Dorsainvil. Other swimmers from Latin America Ben Hockin Karen Riveros Lani Cabrera Alex Sobers Mikel Schreuders Ally Ponson Jordan Augier Also, :TRI Dylan Carter received an invite for his B standard (most likely men's 100m freestyle), a woman will probably not be added unless FINA wants to ignore 2015 World Aquatics Championship as a requirement.
