  1. To be fair this is more to do with the athlete limitation opposed on nations. Despite boxing getting three more events 35 less athletes will compete in it. There is also a limit to how many boxers per nation can compete (I think it was 12 or 13 out of the 16 evens). Also 7 people will compete in the event so only one person will be guaranteed a medal.
  2. The wrestling event has three different formats due to the low number of athletes 5 athletes: round robin (nordic) 6-7 athletes: group stage, then semifinal+final 8+ athletes: bracket with reprechage 6/12 events have less than 8 athletes. Not a very good showing and could put the sport at risk from appearing in future games (it is an optional sport)
  3. I'm not against kata being in the Olympics, but if you are going to give the sport so few athlete quotas things need to be cut. Baseball/Softball is the same thing, they should have either made it an 8 team tournament or don't bother hosting it.
  4. Yeah they should have dropped kata and made the kumite events have 16 athletes each.
  5. Triathlon isn't too bad, to make space for mixed relay qualification we lose the continental and world qualification events, leaving world rankings as the only way to qualify (other than the mixed relay qualification event). It will also be a lot harder to qualify a third athlete to the games; all three must be in the top 30, oppose to being the first 8 nations to qualify three athletes.
  6. According to the document there won't be any "triple starters" they are quite clear that the maximum in an individual event is two.
  7. Not always. If a nation qualified two individuals plus the mixed team and decide to select a third athlete that athlete won't be allowed to compete in the individual event.
  8. In that giant chart where it shows the distribution of quotas
  9. I also feel it's unfair that ISSF uses chronological priority. The 2018 American Championships happens before all of the World Cup events meaning the top nations (United States and Cuba to an extent) are competing for spots while for the other continents there will be less competition. I guess it's our fault to have the continental championship so early and having all of the quotas in the Pan American Games is unfair given our qualification system.
  10. If I'm reading this right the mixed teams quotas will be decided during the qualification round of the World Championships. I guess that's to guarantee qualified nations (provided they achieve the MQS). Will nations which qualified 2 individuals use this to try to get a third person to compete in only the mixed event? They would be eligible to compete in the individual event under the double starter rule since they also need to achieve the MQS to be selected.
  11. Maybe they wanted participation from all continents though even then it's likely everyone will be in attendance through team and individual qualifiers: Egypt for Africa, Canada/Mexico/United States for Americas, Australia for Oceania and various nations for Asia and Europe.
  12. More or less, though I guess you can consider the qualification round as part of the mixed team tournament. Overall this was done to make sure at least 16 NOCs have a male and female archer.
  13. That was the 2017 qualifiers
  14. This is the Road to Buenos Aires series which is hosted in each continent. The African Qualifiers happened in 2017 where Egypt and Tunisia qualified in the boys' and Egypt and Nigeria qualified in the girls'.
  15. Only the top 4 athletes will be eligible for the quota places. If you are unable to award someone the place will be reallocated to the Final Individual Qualification Tournament. So basically Asia will lose out.
  16. The table tennis event is opened for all nations, you can see the entry list here. Other qualifying events this week will be the Asian Beach Volleyball Qualifier and the Oceania Triathlon Qualifier.
  17. That's where things are heading, but there's a lot of push-back from the crown dependencies/other territories that compete at the games, but not necessarily internationally (because they don't have a recognized sport federation). I wouldn't mind just giving everyone 15-20 individual spots that decrease as you qualify athletes
  18. Suspensions for banned nations in weightlifting lifted early at youth level so they can compete at the Youth Olympics Link
  19. It's a good way to gain experience from multi-sport events like being part of a village. Canada uses the Commonwealth and Pan American Games to that extent.
  20. Medals aren't tied to any event, it's more the summation of all the chances a nation has. The vacancies are to prevent other nations from gaining an unfair boost to their chances. I used the 2016-17 World League for hockey and the World Cup Final and World Shotgun Championships for shooting. Equestrian and women's football did not have anything that I could of used.
  21. 1) A combination of things. Some events did not have a top tier championship/ranking. Some events had too many athletes from the same nation, for example, China had 5 quarter-finalists in women's singles table tennis, but only two were actually counted, leaving the rest as blanks. Weightlifting is also missing a bunch of spots in anticipation that the banned nations will return (I was still very generous with the results, Mexico is looking at a potential of two medals). 2) Basically the formula thinks the United States has overperformed while Canada has underperformed in 2017. From a medals perspective Canada had a pretty bad year, but from an overall picture Canada did pretty well. Athletics is a good example, 0 medals, yet 12 top 8 performances. 3) Germany was a step behind Great Britain and France in 2017 thus the medals show that. Hockey and shooting are both included, Germany is expected to get 0-2 and 2-5 medals respectively.
  22. Here are my predictions based off of 2017 results. Note, not all events had world championships/equivalents, biggest being women's boxing and equestrian. Weightlifting has been adjusted due to many nations missing out (though the nations missing out aren't compensated). Also nations with only one medal chance have been rounded down to 0 and I have not excluded any athletes which have retired. United States - 102 Russia - 61 China - 60 Great Britain - 46 France - 44 Japan - 43 Germany - 37 Australia - 30 Italy - 29 Canada - 26 Netherlands - 26 Poland - 24 South Korea - 22 Hungary - 21 Spain - 21 Ukraine - 18 Brazil - 16 New Zealand - 15 Belarus - 12 Czech Republic - 12 Turkey - 12 Cuba - 11 Switzerland - 10 Denmark - 9 Iran - 9 Kenya - 9 Serbia - 9 Sweden - 9 Colombia - 8 Georgia - 8 Mexico - 8 Azerbaijan - 7 Belgium - 7 Croatia - 7 Jamaica - 7 Uzbekistan - 7 Ethiopia - 6 India - 6 Kazakhstan - 6 Lithuania - 6 Mongolia - 6 Chinese Taipei - 6 Greece - 5 Norway - 5 Romania - 5 Slovakia - 5 Slovenia - 5 South Africa - 5 Thailand - 5 Austria - 4 Bulgaria - 4 Portugal - 4 Bahrain - 3 Dominican Republic - 3 Egypt - 3 Estonia - 3 Hong Kong - 3 Israel - 3 Morocco - 3 North Korea - 3 Trinidad and Tobago - 3 Venezuela - 3 Argentina - 2 Armenia - 2 Bahamas - 2 Botswana - 2 Chile - 2 Ecuador - 2 Finland - 2 Indonesia - 2 Ireland - 2 Latvia - 2 Malaysia - 2 Qatar - 2 Singapore - 2 Tunisia - 2 Vietnam - 2 Albania - 1 Cote d'Ivoire - 1 Cyprus - 1 Eritrea - 1 Fiji - 1 Guatemala - 1 Kyrgyzstan - 1 Moldova - 1 Montenegro - 1 Nigeria - 1 Puerto Rico - 1 Tajikistan - 1 Turkmenistan - 1 Zambia - 1
  23. Table Tennis qualifiers for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games
  24. I'm trying to construct a list of qualified nations to the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. For fencing there was a qualification tournament in San Juan from April 30th - May 7th 2017. I've found a results page, but it does not include the results of the men's team sabre and women's team foil events. The events occurred as I know the medalists (VEN, COL, MEX for men and VEN, CUB, MEX for women). Does anyone have a results database that may include those results?
