  1. There isn't exactly a world ranking in sevens. The fairest way, other than letting Mexico (or Jamaica) take the continental quota is for them to switch the priority of the continental events and World Series.
  2. Basically, Europe had the opportunity to qualify up to six teams, not our fault their best teams can't compete with the best from Oceania/North America
  3. That's true, Thailand is only here because North Korea is still recovering from its aftermath from its suspension while Mexico (and even Costa Rica) is a lot better than Jamaica, but in qualification anything can happen. Africa is also a weak link, not sure why they got three spots while South America only has 2.5.
  4. The issue is that a 16 team World Cup likely means Europe will be squeezed even more, the reduction would probably be 3 Europeans, 2 Asians and 1 Africa, South America and CONCACAF.
  5. I heard Vans Park Skate and World Skate couldn't come to an agreement.
  6. 2017-20 Athlete Performance Database Link I'm in the middle of creating an athlete database and I'm wondering if some of you want to beta test it before coming fully online by the end of the month. Basically I want to know if it works for everyone and whether there are any formatting errors. The other big thing would be whether or not the names for some athletes are spelt correctly. Sadly a lot of times there are mistranslations when the name is romanized, additionally some athletes change their name (mostly due to marriage) or even nationality.
  7. From the qualification document "If any of the three (3) NOCs that qualified three (3) quota places through the FTQT had already obtained one (1) quota place for the individual competition, this individual quota place will be added to the list of available quota places at the Final World Individual Qualifying Tournament (see below)" So basically, should a nation qualify a team quota they are technically only given two athlete quotas and the third one will be applied to the final qualification tournament.
  8. Wouldn't the extra quota be reallocated to the final qualification tournament?
  9. Perhaps. North Korea is a bit of a wildcard sometimes. They could have easily have missed the world championships because they knew they had no chance at winning a team quota and since they already have an Olympic quota it would be seen as a waste of money to travel there.
  10. Nations can only qualify one quota in the individual event
  11. Unfortunate for Canada. Two more quotas for Asia in men's recurve. I think the first two continental quotas would go to and the third one is quite open.
  12. Historically World Archery has been relatively good at letting archers from small nations compete without reaching the MQS. Regardless Fiji should be able to reach it.
  13. Also with six Asian teams already qualified in the men's team event the individual qualifier has become more interesting. will be favoured, but you could see other small nations like or with an outside chance of qualifying.
  14. Australia winning the men's team quota means both Fiji and Tonga are favourites to pick up the oceania quotas (assuming New Zealand decides not to try and qualify again)
  15. Yeah, I imagine New Zealand's strategy was to draw one of Canada/Netherlands then win against Cameroon to advance to the next round (possibly in second place)
  16. The universal qualifier was mostly done in 3x3 to avoid continental representation. Sadly, clubs have too much power for there to be a two stage qualifier in football. Though I guess for women they could have had a tournament during the same time as the SheBelieves/Algarve/Cyprus Cups which includes the best performing nations from their respective continental championships (minus nations already qualified).
  17. Really hoping for a team quota, but India is one of the stronger unseeded (not top 8) opponents. We'll also have two chances to win an individual quota should the team quota not work out.
  18. Great chance for her to qualify at the African qualifiers
  19. Also since the World Championships holds priority over the Asian Games the individual quotas will likely be reallocated. This will likely benefit Indonesia has both South Korea and China are likely to qualify at least a man's and woman's quota respectively. North Korea did not send any archers so it will maintain its quota from the mixed team event.
  20. I know this is more due to the amount of athlete quotas in canoeing, but PASO should do a better job in guaranteeing 8 boats per event (they would need an increase of 50 athletes).
  21. Unlikely yes, but not impossible. The US isn't that much better than everyone. I'd give them a ~30% chance of failing to win either tournament
  22. Yeah, reallocations are tough and it doesn't help that the ICF doesn't produce a qualified nations list until just before the Olympics (at least that was the case at the past two games)
  23. Sadly yes... Assuming South Africa doesn't take the African quota, 9/10 of relevant teams will compete in Tokyo and I have a feeling we'll be the odd team out if the US doesn't win the World League or World Championships.
