  1. I know, I guess I was expecting Croatia to "only" lose by 20 goals
  2. 34 - 1 Did Croatia know they couldn't win and decided to save their strength for Slovakia to ensure they would reach the quarter-finals?
  3. At this point, can they even call it a fleet race? It's essentially a match race...
  4. I'm happy for them. With their success in speed skating in roller sports, it is only natural that they can also have success on the ice version (and short track) at the Winter Olympics. Hopefully this medal at the Youth Olympics encourages them to continue with the investment.
  5. My point still stands, they can't be bothered to do the research or find someone that knows the athletes (which I admit would be quite difficult as this is youth sports).
  6. Nope, it's easier/cheaper to throw in some news reporter that they were already paying to do the job.
  7. It's also the Youth Olympics, so I'm not surprised that they are finding it difficult to attract top English speaking talent...
  8. That's quite common sadly. For a lot of people, sport only exists at the Olympic or World Championship (if at that) level. You'd think a commentator would know better or at least be given a paper with that information, but you know, paying someone to figure out that information is too much for some media outlets.
  9. Yeah, rugby and weightlifting are pretty much the top sports for Pacific Nations... One can only wish . Too bad the IOC is allergic to more athlete quotas. Maybe they'll reduce it to 10 person teams
  10. Yeah, it's quite possible it will decide the second team to compete in the final Olympic qualifier.
  11. Montinho/Afonso continue to lead after winning two more races on day 3 Angola's women still lead Mozambique by two points.
  12. If it's or it'll be their first athletes qualified to the games.
  13. It's not so much that they were excluded, it's because they didn't apply to compete. It's quite expensive to travel, especially in team sports.
  14. Montinho/Afonso won both races today. It was weird seeing them in second yesterday, but I guess it was just a bad first race. The women's race had Mozambique finish last in the first two races and now today Angola's crew finished last. Hopefully there's no collusion from the men's boats where they try to give the women the best result relative to Mozambique.
  15. Getting ready for the 2024 Olympics? Most of her competitions were in St. George Prix so she needs to move up if that's her plan.
  16. While the schedule is suppose to get better for us, it's a shame we are still without a medal.
  17. Is it such few quotas? In 470 we have 12 and 14 quotas for nations based on the 2018 and 2019 World Championships, not to mention that not all of the continent/host quotas are "wasted." At this point any nation of note should have qualified. The Olympics tries to achieve a balance between strength and diversity, it's the reason why we don't have a hundred Kenyans/Ethiopians running in the marathon or in sailing's case multiple entrants from the same country. In the end, the 19th/21st ranked nation and Angola have the same chance at winning a medal so I'd rather have the diversity. Free quotas in some events are an unfortunate result and while I'm not entirely opposed to a rule that there must be at least 2-3 eligible nations competing, but in sailing it would be hard to implement. Canada/United States and Australia/New Zealand have enough pull to argue for diversity even though it also benefits them. Obviously Asia and Africa would be against it too and I doubt Europe will push too hard as to avoid being accused of making the Olympics "too Euro-centric"
  18. To be fair Angola was the only African boat to compete in the men's 470 at the last couple of World Championships. This saved them the cost of sending a boat to Italy to claim the quota plus they get to send a female boat too
  19. Technically 1976 had nine team sports though I guess you can argue host quotas don't count. I think we'd have a good chance at matching it. We should qualify in women's basketball and football. After that we just need one of men's baseball/basketball/football/water polo to pull through
  20. Yes, hopefully they post results soon. So far, all I know is we have entries from Edit: Looks like South Africa is only competing in the 420 event
  21. Given it's for the Pan American Games, we could see Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  22. I'm always nervous when Canada plays Cuba in volleyball. I'm glad they were able to pull off the win. Still need to get it done against Puerto Rico tomorrow.
  23. What will essentially be the deciding match is today. I don't know why they wouldn't put the two highest ranked nations against each other on the final day.
  24. Did France send their B team or something? I know Portugal has been on an upswing as of late, but France is the defending Olympic silver medalist and more recently won bronze at the 2019 World Championships. This is only one match, but if France can't make something happen against Norway then Portugal will advance to the main round and potentially compete for one of the two places at the final Olympic qualification tournament.
  25. With gymnastics finally updating most of the continental qualifiers we now have almost all the qualification dates. What I'm missing are... 2020 African Water Polo Olympic Qualification Event 2020 African Trampoline Championships 2020 World Surfing Games I'm 95% sure there will not be an African water polo qualification event and the quota will be reallocated to the final qualification tournament. I also know the World Surfing Games will be held in May, but the specific dates won't be announced until a host is chosen. If anyone finds one of those dates (especially the African Trampoline Championships) let me know.
