.China and South Korea are both real winter sports country, but in skating. There is more than just skiing in the Winter Olympics. We'll see how bad (or good?) the Beijing downhill will be this season. Hopefully it's not bad, the events at Olympic venues they've had in freestyle skiing / snowboarding have been pretty good so far.

The Canadian who finished in the top 10 (Lyndsey Tessier, the over 40 national record holder) did not previously meet the standard. Pretty sure her qualification is somewhat of a surprise tbh.

That would be kind of embarrassing to the sport. Like, I like Christine Girard but it's a bit silly that she won gold in London in the -63kg category when her total would only have gotten her bronze in the -58kg category...

I may be wrong, but I believe that if Italy beats the Netherlands, Israel will qualify for the Olympics regardless of the result of their game against South Africa. -

No, Israel is a huge favorite against South Africa and if they win that they qualify no matter what since they hold the tiebreak over both Italy and the Netherlands.

7 - 4 So Israel now has a date with South Africa with an Olympic spot on the line.

Ya, just checked, this would be only the fourth time Israel has ever qualified in a team sport (they participated once in basketball and twice in football).

8 - 2 final. In a very anticlimactic finish to this tournament, Israel is guaranteed a spot in the Olympics as long as they beat either or this week-end. Does anyone know when was the last time that Israel qualified in a team sport?

It’s really hard to express how unlucky the Italian team was during the top of the 8th inning. Just a ridiculous series of events. 8 - 2 with 1.5 innings to go.

Just cut the quotas like they did at the Olympics, it eliminated the need for a B session

Italy having a horror top of the 8th inning. Couple of errors, two hit by pitch, three runs scored so far for Israel.

Also, Israel might as well be the USA’s B team. Over half the roster is from the US.

Second final score of the tournament: 3 - 0 Spain’s offense never really goy going. Israel now faces Italy and the Netherlands on back to back days.

It’s kind of ridiculous that Israel and Palestine don’t compete.
