  1. Well Canada will match Tokyo now but for the surprise gold in men's what is going on in shotput? OMG This is so horrible. I was counting on a women's shotput medal to get 25medals. That leaves Breaking, wresting ladies, 800m men and Kate Vincent to earn a medal to get Canada 25 medals. Just one medal will do it. But I was counting on shotput. I feel for Sarah; such disappointment. Kind of like Damien Warner you just can explain good and bad days. 19.77m would have put her in the lead and probably guaranteed a medal. That's what she did to qualify. Perhaps nerves?
  2. I am interested to see this new event BREAKING. I know there are issues or controversy is it a sport. There are many x type sports now because well they are popular with the young. I am happy about the depth of Canada - they do look like they willl beat Tokyo's results. they have 23 medals for sure if you include beach volleyball and Canada still has men's 800, women's shotput, Kate Vincent and Breaking as really good chances to medal. then there are a few outside opportunities - 4x 100 mens and women's though fourths look more hopeful.
  3. Lyles conduct is disgusting. Why are the olympics allowing him and Adam Peaty to compete. Kids should be told this is not good but selfish. Lock yourselves up don't spread covid. They are being wilfully bind all for the lure of glory and medals.
  4. Did anyone watch the medal ceremony for team figure skating. It was nice for the gold and silver medallists finally to receive their medals. USA and Japan looked so happy though it was bittersweet - 2.5 years later and it was a wonderful ceremony despite not allowed to use the podium. Such a long wait though. We missed Shomo from Japan though especially. And we really missed Canada. I am not going to get into attacking Russia. I actually think the Valieva is also a victim here used by the Russian skating system but Canada should have been there to receive the bronze medal Usually if you have a teammate disqualified for doping violation the whole team is disqualified. Alternatively if you remove Valieva as a "competitor" due to doping the other teams would move up and that would give Canada Bronze. I admit Canada was pretty weak in skating at Beijing and still is but they still deserved the bronze. EVen Roman Sadovsky who skated miserably and had to replace Keegan Messing who was battling covid and flying to the olympics he kept Canada in the game and the earned bronze fairly.
  5. Sorry and sad about cycling. Golf is looking bad. But wow to Canada's beach volleyball team surviving match point and coming back to guarantee a silver medal. So we have breaking; Kate Vincent solo and pairs; beach volleyball, women's shotput, men's 800m and I believe artistic swimming. So I guess Canada could still meet or beat Tokyo. They have 21 medals guaranteed (beach volleyball) so that leaves 7 reasonable shots for medals and outside ones on the track. Are there any other events that Canada has reasonable medal threats - maybe weightlifting or judo or something like that? Go Canada!
  6. I hope today will be a better day. I feel so bad for Andre and Mohammed. Andre maybe was not a favourite for a medal but Mo had a great chance. Canada might not get any medals on the track. Marcos now has a lot of competition for the podium. The men's 4x 100 team is not looking great with our men fading. THough I understand poor Andre is injured. Fingers crossed for beach volleyball. and maybe something in taekwondo; artistic swimming, breaking, canoe/kayak and a surprise maybe in cycling?
  7. True. But regardless threats are not only bullying and improper they are illegal. I don't like her comments but no one or their family should be threatened.
  8. Has anyone been following the story of Mikayla Skinner and Simone Biles. I was a bit worried while I like Simone her fans are very strong and it appears they are overreacting to Ms. Skinner. Now Skinner and her family including a young child are gettingg death threats. She is begging Simone to do or say something. II don't agree what Skinner has said often though I think a lot is mis understood but nonethess death threats on her and her family are not called for. For every Simone Biles and Tom Daley there will be many olympians some with medals who will have very average jobs. I see so many trying to stay rellvant. Even sadly we see gymnasts like Mary Lou Retton who with her perkiness and Olympic gold was a darling and now she struggles to make ends meet and has to use Go fund me to help with medical bills. Not all gold is lined with silver.
  9. Sorry I meant the AA. I think Brian Orser and Elvis Stoijko suffered it in figure skating where in two quadrenniels they came second. I am so glad Rebeca won the ffloor..... and over Simone too. Thhey are great friends and athletes. At least isn't like that Canaddian diver - I think she placed fourth three times now they said.
  10. Wow who would thnk two swiss in the quarters and one american team only. Surprised the Canadians won as they have not looked good at all and in straight sets. Thoughts - Canada make the semi finals? Are the top Americans beatable. I see a medal for the Swiss.
  11. I can see several potential flagbearers comiing out of gymnastics. Maybe from the men's Japan all around champ? Simone Biles is an obvious choice for the US.. Rebeca for Brazil Maybe Ana will get rewarded for Romania? And our Filipino powerhorse for the Philipines?
  12. I assume this is sarcasm. USA is clearly a dominant figure in gymnastics especially the ladies. I really liked that in the men there were a lot of medallists from different countries including gold from the Philipines. Simone did very well but it was nice to see Rebeca get a gold. It is hard being the Susan Lucci of gymnastics. People need to realilze winning to silver all arounds at two olympics in a row is a huge accomplishment. The only person I would like to see a medal is Ellie Black because the more I find out about her the more I am impressed with her as a human being and athlete. It is irony that the pommel horse guy who only did that one event ends up with more medals than any US man this year. It is kind of fun and cool that he plays off of his "nerd" look and how he can complete the Rubik's cube in under 11 seconds - I guess waiting to do his one event. You never know where you will find your super heroes. As gymnastics commes to an end the USA got their touted and much talked about gold along with a gold for Simone in the AA not to mention vault The chinese men and women weren't as strong as teams but did win some awards on the events and or all around. Italy announced it self as a force to reckon with in ladies. Not huge amount of conflict though the floor in ladies maybe more so. The men were solid Japan, China, GBR, Ukraine, Philipines, some spectacular falls - the Canadian guy on the bars was quite disastrous and scary. I am not sure we need to have all the glitter on the l eotard of the ladies which I think is taking a nod to marketing and figure skating. The uniforms have nothing to do with the floor routines and music let alone the bars, beam or vault. In the end the human body is celebrated! WOW.
  13. We appreciate your enthusiasm. It has been tough. I was so hoping for medal in 3x3 and or men's basketball. They came up flat against France today. Yay ffor Rogers I really hope in breaking, Kate Vincent, our distance runner, I think we have another runner Not including Andre and the boys. who reasonably could win medals. All the predictions have Andre and the boys off the podium in all lthe short distances. I think there is one more medal chance in the canoe or kayak? and was Canada favoured by some to win a medal in synchro? (Duets?) I thought there was also one more lady in track or field who was considered a potential medal threat. I will have to check beach volleyball (ladies).
  14. I understand the frustrattion but can you imagine the athletes? They are doing their best = they lost in 3x3 ladies basketall Ithink three games by one point and that makes the difference. Proud of them but wish they had a medal. I think that means Canada will not beat 24 medals from Tokyo I am n ot sure but I think they are out in ladies beach volleyball so that means men's basketball is the hope for a medal, breaking, and they would need 5 more medals from athletics (track and field). Maybe 2 medals in field events and 2 medals in running maybe another medal in athletics? but hard to get 24. I am noto sure if there are boating/rowing/canoeing events we could medal or if the artistic swimming we have a chance?
  15. I know the athletes are trying and aren't on purposely playing bad - basketball but it has been rough. In diving McKay was truly awesome but not enough to beat the top three here - though I do wonder about the North Korean - she seemed overscored? I think it is important for Canada to do their bestttt but ffor beating Tokyo's medal count I felt they had to get a medal in basketball men's or 3x3 ladies or women's beach. It's not looking great they will medal in any of them. I am looking forward to breaking and hoping we can win ladies hammer. Can they get 4 or 5 more medals in track and field including hammer? That would help a lot. But it is tough.
  16. I don't think you can go by medals; it just would be nice if we could beat Tokyo but every olympics there is some special highlight and you don't have to look hard. I am not sure what is the best olympics for Canada or for that matter the world. I know at the end the P resident declares the current games the best but I don't think that is the case this year. I don't think it was horrible but the opening ceremonies was very mixed and even with the sophisticated story it need to be "told" or some explanation. The healthy cuisine or so called healthy was a big bust. Some huge percentage going vegan. It was forced on many athletes. In the end food had to be brought in. To the person or persons criticizing the ladies basketball I am sure they did their best. I admit I had never seen 3x3 at the olympics it was fast and fun but admittedly looked very sloppy, choppy and often flailing . Every olympic has different superstars this year they may have been fewer. But there was Summer Mcintosh who knows who else with six days left. True Canada has not won the glamour sports - decathlon, gymnastics, soccer, basketball, 100m, but they are doing just fine. Keep on cheering for them; it does looking challenging to beat Tokyo but that's not the only measure.

  19. I know people hate fourth as it is so close to a medal but I think Canada at best is looking at fourth in the men'sd 4x100 relay and 4th in the 200m if Andre even makes it. Can someone explain to me was Andre injured for some time or is hejust not very good any more (relatively)? Iknow Penny O in swimming has gone through a lot of injuries. I see we are way back in artisitic swimming but maybe it was the duets we had a chance for bronze???

  21. I was looking at some of the analysis about the swimming relay today. Canada most likely would have won bronze with Penny swimming instead of Summer. Obviously Summer is the star this games but Penny is better at this distance and her times wwere faster. It was a gamble the swim team took and it failed sadly. Canada has done their best but Warner strategiically made an error in the decathlon and then there was the soccer mess. I think we need to focus on the good stuff = Ellie Black to me is a Canadian hero. Great on the medallists but she is all class. It just seems she isn't the luckiest but four olympics. I wanted her to win a medal but she has shown great leadership,, skill and sportsmanship while be an ambassador not only for gymnastics but to the world.
  22. So what are the chances of Canada matching last olympics medal haull? I would love to see that but the predictions suggest differently Does Canada realistically have chances in men's basketball? Anything in canoes or rowing? Athletics there is the well earned gold in thehammer but unfortunately our second guy did not do so well after qualifying second. There are still a couple of throw events and Ibelieve some mid and longer distance Canada could podium Beach Volleyball doesn't look great. One win a way from a medal in ladies 3x3 basketball. Synchro swimming? We used to be really strong there. Breaking? Probably we would need some unexpected medals from like Andre; basketball to match or beat last time. No doubt they are trying and that is all we can ask even though we llove to see them podium:)
  23. Great analysis but it makes me a bit of a cynic. It's a long shot for Canada to medal to expect all 4 athletes would get their best on the same day at the same time but fingers crossed for swimming. If Canada is going to match or beat last olympics a trend many of us like and hope they will need to start picking up some of the "close" medals. I think they would need to medal in swimming one more time, earn medals in breaking and one of the canoe/boat events left, one medal at least between the teams - basketball or volleyball, 5 medals from athletics which is hard now with Andre not looking good and no medals in the decathlon. But maybe I am missing some other strong events hopefully. Boxing? So I guess it is possible Canada could match or beat last olympics. Go Canada!
  24. I like most Canadians are patriotic and hope the best for our athletes. Likewise other countries. NO matter what you know all the althletes are trying. Today is a challenging day for poor Canada. Damian Warner had a disaster and is out of the race after not clearning the minimum in the pole vault. Aaron Brown a hopeful in th e100m got disqualified. Andre didn't look good but made it to the semis. This does not bode well for the 4x 100. The ladies lost in 3x3 basketball ; I am not sure if the dream is over but 3 losses in a row:( Black and Olsen were no match on the vault to Biles and Andrade. On the silver lining is the ladies winning 8's that was impressive after all the struggles. Not that medals should be the goal but it is a bit heartbreaking in the decathlon where we had two of the very best we will not podium. Hopefully maybe we can get a surprise medal say in tennis or ladies soccer and do well in the pool in the relays especially.
