  1. There are so many factors and much sadness in the women's floor exercise debacle. First, all the ladies are amazing athletes. And awe inspiring. Second, I get the desire to "win" and have a medal. Third, it really seems a lot of issues is really the result of the judging and that is based on human frailty - flesh. Fourth I understand Jordan was not given credit for techinical difficulty which increased her degree of difficulty by .1 and overalll score. i also understand some say she did not complete the element or should have lost marks for execution. Then on the other hand was she already docked for the execution issues? I have problems with Chiles losing the bronze on a technicality of when the appeal was filed. Not law but I want to know really who should get the bronze on ability - that might be a problem as this is a judged sport THen you have Sabrina who really may be the ultimate victim. The issue may be she has a terrible coach who missed the fact she did NOT step out of bounds and should have not been deducted .1 which would put her in bronze even with a Chiles adjusted score. ow, I go for get technicalities what happened and she should not have been deducted the .1. Finally you have Ana who had the bronze. Lost the bronze. Had the bronze and then she had the bronze. Remember with judging there is lots of interpretation. It is nice that everyone has so much support. It would be sad if we lost gymnastics due to scandals like this. But sometimes the sport can destroy itself. They have amazing athletes but I find judging brings in a human element deeply flawed. Gymnastics appears to have tried to market itself almost more like figure skating with bedazzled outfits and exhibitions that ressemble skating's exhibitions. Focussing on the sexappeal of muscles and all. Let these ladies celebrate bronze and stop the "fighting" protests et al. Wait the lady in 8th now has an issue with the judging? My mom would say no medals to anyone but different circumstances. Still sometimes good sportsmanship peace andmaye even logic says 3 bronze medals. Yay to Jordan, Ana and Sabrina. Judges butts saved I guess. Move on. In this case the medal is already tainted why not give all three the bronze and call it a day.
  2. The problem about all these appeals and complaints is that it hurts usually the populariity of the sport as we saw in figure skating. So in protestingloudly you may bring about your voice being heard but at the cost of the sport. Skating has be spiralingout of control How lelgitiate should we take skaittnn gwhen the value of elements change and not even proportionately. It is crrazy and world records don't make sense. Like a timed event okay but judged it is too hard to figure out what is going on now. The fourth place gymmnast had a poor coach who missed the boat with catching the foot out off bounds and it wasn'twhich would put her third regardless of Chiles. Ahd Jordans extra element was not done well or fully rotated so should thatt be refflected iiin the execcution score? No matter what medal Jordan is a champ and one of the top gymnasts in the world.
  3. I mentioned this earlier that Ellie is really a champion. Athletic. Artistic. Nothing against Simone or Jordan but she is not a l oud mouth so to speak. Diplomatic and cares about other. I so wanted her to earn a medal. Maybe she could do one more olympics? Might be asking too much 4 years she would be 32?
  4. USA has filed another appeal saying there is new evidence and that their original filing was within one minute.. Yes, ironaicall the fourth place finisher who arguable should havve the bronze as she did not step out of bounds will never get the bronze. It will be either Ana or Jordan. Or bothif the IOC goes back and say both can have bronze. I think all three should get bronze. But it looks like the USA might get the bronze now. Honestly whoever gets the bronze it is so tainted. What a mess. Whoever gets the bronze medal please take it with gratitude and don't make a commment about winning.. Shut up and let this mess die.
  5. This is horrible for everyone - all three gymnasts. No one really can celebrate. None of the gymnasts did anything wrong. I feel for Jordan as she was "unlucky" and missed the AA due to the two person rule from one country and now this. To think you won an olympic medal then bam its gone. Kind of like Charlie Brown kicking that football and Lucy grabbed it from him. The medal was snatched out of their hands.
  6. Obviously they told Summer a couple of days ago as she was in Toronto. Is there a rule about when you have to leave the olympic complex? So many athletes leave before the end of the Games Also, Summer went home on Tuesday to Canada by plane maybe I don't understand but that's a lot of travelling to have to fly out again probably Friday? Unless there was some family thing she had to attend you would think she would have just stayed in France?
  7. Since I created this topic I might as well start off. Seeing Summer McIntosh win 3 gold and a silver in the pool was so exciting to see a 17 yeara old succeed. Believe it or not seeing Ellie Black comfort the French gymnast who was having a bad olympics was heartwarming. The amazing victory of the 4x100m Men's relay was a Canadian moment when things stood still. And seeing the pain of defeat in Sarah Mitton and Damien Warner showed the humanity. There were some interesting characters. Noah Lyles the brash, braggerd American. The charming and hilarious Brit Tom Daley. The coolness and class of Katie Ledecky. The spunk of Simone Biles The athletes over came some shortcomings of Paris from the food to the beds to the heat athletes striving to be the best made for special moments.
  8. As we come down to the end of the 2024 Paris Olympics we have enjoyed the sweat and tears of athletes all over the world including Canada. They gave it their all. Sometimes it was sweet victory; other times devastating defeat and hopefully the enjoyed the journey. What are your favourite moments?
  9. My understanding is that the USA and Romania agreed to share the medal which was nice - though I feel for the other Romanian who actually now has a higher score than Jordan (and really tied with Ana but loses on tie breaker). I guess sadly in a way Jordan is tasting the same Medicine Ana had - thinking they had won the bronze medal. I really did not like Jordan's conduct after doing so well but I agree unfairly missing the all around due to the two membeer from one country rule - which ironically in part was because back in the day USA was getting beaten by eastern blocks sweeping the to 10 etc. I understand she is proud by lilke Noah Lyllles they become rather arrogant, flashy, trashy, boastful a little too enthusiastic so to speak Undert the circumstances with Ana losing the bronze on such a horrendous way youu would hope Jordan woudl show more class and be more reserved but not Ms.Chiles. She the woman. She the champ. No one tells her waht to do or say. Now the tables may be turned. I also am not impressed how these athletes it appears use their family and friends to get sympathy. Noah Lyle's mommy told the world he had covid during the race explaining his bronze in the 200m and making it a win. Jordan's sister and mom are saying they lost the medal because she is black and it is racism. No matter what happens Jordan is an amaziing athlllete, gymnast and person. She doesn''t need the bronze; she is a champion. She even has a gold and she made significant contributions. Maybe it is time ffor gymnasticcs to rest and give the limelight to others. Now the issue should she give back the bronze since FIG and IOC said no to sharing.? Let her keep it and put it in the record books she is fifth. I mean the bronze medals fall apart anyways. Maybe Russia can send Jordan one of those special Platinum medals that Evgeni Plushenko got in 2010?
  10. I think Breaking is going to be a hard sell to return. It was fun but it was not explained well. The one on one idea is hard to accept and respect as there is no actual physical competition. it really is like judging routines and highest wins except because the sport is so new no one knows that the valueis of the moves. The way the sport was presented including the names and announcers it seemed more like WWE wrestling than an olympic sport. Breaking is like some of the X games aimed at the young but it is not translating well to a sport and olympics.
  11. This is so sad. No matter who gets the bronze there is a sense tainting or lacking leg with the medal.itimacy. I hope the Romanian doesn't make a brash comment like Jordan did when she was told she had bronze. Everyone be humble, be kind - I don't know how anyone is going to feel good
  12. You got to give it to the athletes from Canada they beat their tokyo total. Such a wide range of sports too. I hope they can have fun tomorrow. Have they announced who is the flag bearer?
  13. I think he may not be what we consider as artistiic but his basic skills and tricks were cleaner and harder.
  14. Speaking of commentators depending on what network the commentators were in many cases bizarre. Major networks cheaped out or let p eople where whatever. Some online rep orting using interesting language. Interesting waradrobe choice there was a guy in Canada with a borderline mullet who I still don't know who he is wearing Miami Vice inspired wardrobe but often with shoes that didn't complement the outffit. He looked like he dressed himself from the RW and Co sale rack. Some of the American commentators golf casual just didn't look professional.
  15. So happy for Phil and Canada. It was fun to watch but aa I stated earlier I am not so sure I find this in the olympic spirit but that is just me. It seems almost artificial putting the two people up. It is almost like two skaters doing the routine and then see who scores higher. In boxing or wresttling they actually physically are against each other. So that ends the olympic hunt for Canada realistically???? I like they beat Tokyo. And we need to remember they tried Sarah, Damian, Penny, Maggie, the women's soccer team. Win or lose they represented Canada and they earned their olympic berth. Now I know we don't want to get intto let's give everyone a medal but wouldn't it be nice if say Paris created a piece of art medal ie epoxy resin and gave one to each athlete with some kind of iinscription - even if not on the podiuum they made it to the olympics - earned it!
  16. Fingers crossed for Phil. A bit nervous. I have to admit I am not sure about this format. This isn't boxing or wrestlling so the judgging 1 against another whenit could be like gymnastiics/figure skating instead one on one. Plus the names it really doesn't give the olympic vibe. Though now a days it seems a lot of it is marketing and bringing in the viewers and young. I have never seen 3x3 and I only saw the women. I guess I am too uneducated but it looked kind of sloppy like what you see on your local courts - sorry that is insulting to these athletes it just seemed so messy and lack of control.. I guess the shot clock is so short with time it makes it more desperation like.
  17. Whether Canada beats New Zealand or not it doesn't matter. TO beat New Zealand Canada has a slim chance but I guess it falls on Phil Wizard - who just guaranteed himself a silver. I think that's the last strong medal chance though I believe we have outside shot of cycling if it has not been done with the defending gold medallist. I haven't heard much so that can't be good. Fingers crossed for Phil. Heartbreak for Arop stiil a silver. So close. Like Vincent's win itt was a photo finish type thing. I love the different personallities. Andre for a runner is a lot more subdued than some off his compatriots and certainly not nearly as brash and animaled as several of the Americans It is viewpoint but athletes like Noah Lylles and Jordan Chiles who are true top athletes, copetetive, gifted but sometimesthey rubbed me the wrong way. Chiles I know was upset about the rules for the All arouund finals and voiced her frustration. Likewise when she won bronze with all the controversy she made some rather "confident" or arrogant comments.. I get it she won a bronze medal and arrguably has the right to gloat and be excited under the circumstances a little restraint might be nice. I note that there is a lot of f alse news out there at this olympics. Biles being pregnat. Chiles dying. Romania getting the bronze because Chiles filed 1 minute too late her appeal.
  18. I am curious how Kate vincent will do in the C200 since she is b etter in longer distances I thought. There's another Canadian too.
  19. I know she is back in Toronto but it is Saturday and the closing ceremony is Sunday - that's not a lot of time to get back to France. What the Concord or a privatte jet?
  20. I forgot Canada has the former Olymmpic gold medallist in cycling competing tomorrow. I haven't followed her but I wonder what her chances are. I would love to see one more gold come on Wizard or Kate or Arop (better all three). But from what I read Arop has a lot of competitors. Now when does Canada name the flagbearrer for the closing ceremonies. It is probably too late for Summer McIntosh now?
  21. Still reeling about Mitton. And it wasn't even a very good competition. She must be crushed. I can't bellieve Canada's men 4x100 team Just amazing. Question I know Kate Vincent has the C200 but that is with Sophie. is there not an event where she cpaddles by herself???
  22. I agree about Mitton. I love a comeback story after disappointment. She just couldn't do it. I am not sure if it was the weather as you are right al lhad to deal with it or the olympic stage pressure. She might be like Pamela Ware who never ever got her medal she dreamed of. And there is that lady in diving not Ware who got 3 4ths - two at this olympics. Ouch. Everyone has a dream not all get it. I agree Canada will get one more medal most likely at least. I think Wizard or Kate or Arop should get a medal maybe 2 of them I would love all 3 to get medals but doubtful. I kind of wonder about some of the beach vball stuff - in the first set though I think Canada is thrilled with silver anyways.
  23. Okay fingers cross for Phil. But Kate Vincent has a decent shot right too? Strong chance in the 800m but in the last few months there are bunch of challengers I was hoping maybe something like weightlifting. I am not too confident about diving or cycling. I thought Taylor was really our last hope in wrestling. I assume the guy in the 5000k is not much of a threat; I am shocked about Mohammad - how unlucky he got tripped up. Literally the agony of the feet/defeat. Still Canada somehow looks like it will beat Tokyo medal count. Someone needs to console Taylor and Mitton especially Mitton.
  24. O Canada we know you are trying but that blow in the first set is going to maybe haunt Canada in vball. And poor Sarah. She would have won a medal with her semi final throw. Then there is Taylor. She didn't survive a even 30 seconds. Let's hope for a comeback from Canada. but blowing that lead in set one is looking bad. For one good thing for Canada the 4x 100m it seems not so great for other events. I am curious anyone know how Kim is ding in Breaking - has it started. I need to think positive but fear the Sarah or Damien thing could happen to him. It would be nice if Kate Vincent gets gold but at least a medal. We have 24 medals with volleyball Canada needs one more to beat Tokyo but the chances are falling faster than the US are winning medals. Realistically its Kate Vincent; 800m, Breaking - anything else? Still proud of them but I just can't stand the heartbreak of Mitton,Warriner, especially Mitton who wanted to avenge Tokyo. Will she wait four more years? Can anyone else think any remaining events Canada has a chance for a medal? Is Breaking our strongest?
