Before I continue, I just want to say that this may not actually be complete accurate. You might notice that there's only 33 quotas assigned in the women's 1500m. That's because after the initial assignment of quotas, there were 115 quotas which is 3 over the limit. According to the qualification system, the 1500m distances are the last events to assign quotas since they have a max quota of 36 instead of 32. For the men's event, France, Hungary, and Ukraine have the last spots and removing them wouldn't affect the quota totals. Therefore unfortunately, I had to remove one quota from Croatia, Hong Kong and Poland to get the total to 112. We'll see what the NOC does about all this. If anyone actually knows the correct procedures, please comment below.

No new or dropped countries from this weekend. Unfortunately, Belgium lost their 2nd women's quotas so we only have 11 teams eligible to enter a team in the mixed relay now. Hong Kong also lost their only female quota while Australia and Latvia gained their first female athletes.

One more competition to go. Remember the worst results get dropped so we could see a lot of changes next weekend.

Henry Rivers of  had a good result today in Dubai. I think good enough to qualify for the olympics but have to wait for FIS points to be posted.

Because I was curious, I did some digging.

Winston Tang has always competed with the USA.  I found his Instagram here.  No references to Guinea-Bissau at all.  But then when I saw the article on FIS talking about snow sports coming to GBS, I caught (thanks to ChatGPT) that the organizer of the Winter Sports Federation of GBS was named Thomas Tang.  Come to find out, Thomas Tang was born in Taiwan and moved to America as a teenager.  Thomas competed in Calgary 1988 and Albertville 1992 as an alpine skiier, and works as a businessman.  Winston is his son.

I then found a video on Facebook from Ministério da Cultura, Juventude e Desportos da Guiné-Bissau from April 2024 that seems to be Thomas (speaking English) talking with the people at the Ministry in GBS talking about the opportunity to form the winter sport federation. (It's primarily a presentation from someone else in Portuguese.)

Seems like Thomas saw an opportunity to develop something that aligns with his passions...and methinks GBS probably was keen on fast-tracking Tang and his family to be citizens, allowing Winston to compete under their flag.  I also found the dad's FB profile, which shows him in Guinea-Bissau.

(Whether it's dad actually wanting to build winter sports in GBS, or just dad wanting to see his son compete in the Olympics, we'll see where the future leads!)

very important information, thank you for catching that. I tried a simulation with World Tour points and you can't qualify enough athletes in each discipline anyway so it i guess you would have to use the ranking points.

They are not related and yes, Semeniuk is a surname with the Ukrainian origins. The south-eastern part of Poland, the Eastern Galicia with the city of Lviv where the Ukrainian Semeniuk was born, before WWII was mostly Ukrainian. After WWII many people from that area migrated or were moved to the western Poland.

By the way, by coincidence I have seen users with no avatar in most of the "Latest Replies" threads earlier today, so the default avatar is the first letter of your username, which is not so nice

@clemsonbeav @Illya @Jose Luis @Faramir @Kerkun @copravolley if you wanna set an avatar that's very easy to do from your profile page. Of course if you like the default avatar it's totally fine, just a quick suggestion   You can just set your country's flag, an animal, an athlete, whatever you want...Or keep the big first letter of your username of course

We had the first Grand Prix competitions this weekend in  Courchevel, including the new High Five format on Sunday. High Five is a competition where ski jumpers are divided into groups of five using the serpentine system based on the quali or previous competition results - two best of each group and 4 or 5 lucky losers (women and men respectively) move forward to the second round. For the final classification, only the score in the second round counts. It's quite rough around the edges, not easy to follow in the TV broadcast, and will be tested once again next week in  Wisła.   Nika Prevc won on Saturday while  Abigail Strate did so on Sunday, likewise  Marius Lindvik and  Niklas Bachlinger.
I think  Slovakia had one of the best weekends ever. Hektor Kapustik was P28 and P17 , while his younger sister Kira Maria P28 was and P27. And don't forget about Tamara Mesikova with P22 and P23. Slovakia is very close to having at least one ski jumper in each gender at the Olympics.  @hckošice
Frida Westman had a solid proper return to scoring points with P15 and P16.
To finish the update, on the men's side  lost its sole provisional quota for now thanks to  Raimund claiming the yellow bib by coming second twice.

The season 2025-26 started in the South America with Chile Winter Series. One of the skiers who took part in is Nicola Pirozzi from Uruguay. He changed his nationality from Chile before the previous season but did not compete at all. His 51.67 FIS pts in the 2nd Giant Slalom give him a very good chance to qualify for the Olympic Games. It would be 's first winter appearance since the only one so far in Nagano in 1998.
