    Canadian Olympic Trials: Day 1

    Men's 400m Freestyle (OQT: 3:46.78)
    1. Alexander Axon - 3:50.10
    2. Eric Brown - 3:52.27
    3. Jeremy Bagshaw - 3:52.87

    Women's 400m Freestyle (OQT: 4:07.90)
    1. Summer McIntosh - 3:59.06 Q
    2. Julie Brousseau - 4:08.12
    3. Julia Strojnowska - 4:11.08

Was expecting Summer to be a little bit faster here. It looked like she took it out hard early and was under world record pace after 100 meters but then fell off the pace more and more after each 50m. Julie Brousseau was so close to the OQT missing it by 0.22 seconds. It bodes well for her 200 free tomorrow though where she'll have a great chance to qualify.

    Women's 100m Butterfly (OQT: 57.92)
    1. Maggie Mac Neil - 56.61 Q
    2. Mary-Sophie Harvey - 57.31 Q
    3. Rebecca Smith - 57.89

Was also expecting Mac Neil to be a big faster here as well since she 56.54 in prelims. Great swims by both Harvey and Smith who both got under the OQT.

    Men's 100m Breaststroke (OQT: 59.49)
    1. Finlay Knox - 1:00.66 Q
    2. Apollo Hess - 1:00.99
    3. Brayden Taivassalo - 1:01.10

Despite not reaching the OQT, Knox will be selected for the Olympic team for the medley relay.

    Qualifiers after Day 1:
    4 Swimmers (1 man + 3 women)

Priority 1: Swimmers with an OQT finishing in the top 2 in an event
    Mary-Sophie Harvey - Women's 100m Butterfly Maggie Mac Neil - Women's 100m Butterfly Summer McIntosh - Women's 400m Freestyle
Priority 2: Relay swimmers (top 4 in 100/200m freestyle + stroke 100 winners not in Priority 1)
    Finlay Knox - Men's 4x100m Medley Relay

Watching Teachout fight she certainly deserves her Olympic place. Explosive and high-scoring she was very entertaining to watch. She beat the Olympic gold medalist at Tokyo in national trials and now has beaten the world champion. Highlight of the tournament. Shame for Soltero though.
