You don’t realise on TV just how bloody far away the targets are!

Why take the spot then? Surely China could have found a freestyler who would at least try 100%? Just seems weird.

Damn Germans and their consistency. Why can't they be inconsistent like everyone else (by which I mean us, obviously)? Just unsporting of them.

Archery, is one where you look at it and think “how hard can it be, stand in same place and fire arrow” and then you try it for yourself and realise the skill and talent the athletes have!

I was hoping that Orangehair might have entered into the spirit of the games and drop his constant prophet of doom crap but evidently not.

    Ah yes, obviously.

They had a bit of buzz lately when a video surfacing of them practicing  some dance moves with some Moulin Rouge girls (I let you decide why it buzzed in the first place)

And they did their moves on the pitch after they receive their gold medals

big day tomorrow; in particular for the rowing squad, eventing, Peaty and the swimmers, the Ladies gymnastics qualify and Chelsea going in the Judo [hopes of the team are basically on her], and the start of the sailing races!

The 4x1 was a missed chance but was never a guarantee. We were probably unlucky with the lane being right on Pan's wash (which in this pool is probably exacerbated more than some others). It happens.

The only event we were favourites for coming into this was the 4x2, and that's still to come. If Adam wins tomorrow, that's arguably a medal upgrade than most were expecting. Still plenty of medal chances to come.

Overall, a good day for GBR with the two medals both being splendid to see and lots of fine performances from the gymnasts, riders, rowers and hockey players.

Yeah the wrestling is where I've mostly noticed it. Like you, I have everything set up through youtube TV as well. And also have a VPN at the ready if I want commentary more biased towards my team from the BBC.

He probably made a wise choice playing for France, given how our 7s team has been in recent years.

I mean, we could support . They do have our flag on their flag...

Aaron Grandidier, rugby 7's, born in London from a british father, raised in Kent, has represented England (15-a-side) as a youngster

GB was not qualified, Ireland is out, the Aussies and Saffas are still in, so really you have no other choice to cheer for us

They're not bad propositions to be honest, but they are either impractical (longer playing time when the sport is very demanding on the body or smaller fields within already existing stadiums) or politically very unlikely (changing the points system from the 15-a-side game).

For one, i much prefer rugby union for precisely its diversity of scoring and its momentum building. But I'd say rugby seven as an olympic event is perfectly fine.

EDIT: also to add a bit of rugby historical background for people puzzled by the try/conversion dynamic. Originally, a "try", was just that : a try for kicking over the bars, the try by itself didn't award any point. World Rugby is not going to throw that away.

It's what Peacock does. They do it with wrestling too.    I didn't know about TDF since I'm on the west coast I watched it later in the day.  But it will be horrible.  Thank God the main events are on the regular channels so I will probably go a lot to regular broadcast TV since YouTube TV will record every event on every channel.   Also no chance of spoilers

Also we can try out nbc olympics app or nbcolympics.com

Epic Failure - I think you are spot on.  I encountered that during the Tour de France, sometimes I wouldn't turn it on on Peacock until about 5 hours into the race, and it would only go back so far.  Maxim was watching a 6+hour stream of rugby, so similar problem.  Fortunately, handball matches are only 1.5 to 2 hours.

Another thing about Peacock, which should seem obvious, and that is when the live stream ends, no matter where you are in the event, the stream stops and you get the message that replay will be posted soon.  So I've rewound the handball match, I'm at about the 45 minute point in the match, and then suddenly without warning it stops.

Don’t forget Noemi Fox, her sister, also in the KX.  And Cindy Ngamba (Boxing W75), competing for the Refugee team but training with the rest of the British squad, seems to have been claimed as GB by the British press.  I think there are one or two other refugees that are training here as well.

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I thought it would be fun to try and track the 'almost' Brits competing here, who we can root for and claim half a medal if they do well (especially if they are in events where there are no actual Brits for us to cheer for)

I'm sure it is a lengthy list, but here's a few to get started. Add more if you know them!

The Irish team obviously has plenty of Ulster men and women. That includes Dan Wiffen, who also attends Loughborough University. There are plenty of other swimmers who either train in the UK or have done previously, including the Hansson sisters from Sweden, Felix Aubock from Austria and, of course, Reuta Meilutyte.

Jessica Fox (Australia, canoe slalom) - she's the daughter of Richard Fox who competed in the same event for GBR.

Chase Jackson (USA, shot) - she is married to a Brit and I believe she lives and trains there.

Larissa Iapichino (Italy, long jump) - she's the daughter of Fiona May, who jumped for GBR and then (much more successfully) for Italy.

Just come home from the stadium, some thoughts on the quarters:
     - French crowd were insane for their match vs Argentina. Stadium was absolutely rocking.
     - TMO quick decisions seem to being prioritised over getting the correct decisions [ 2 odd ones from the stadium views were the disallowed Arg try and the winning try Fiji were awarded despite a seemingly blatant knock on]
    - NZ were really poor relative to the group stage, the rain had started lightly falling 10 mins before and they made a number of handling errors. SA scored two tries from bits of magic from their best player.
    - Ireland were all too often looking for Kennedy for creative spark, but were slightly unfortunate to come up short.
    - I expect France to win the first semi, but Fiji vs Australia is too tough to call.
    - The quality of rugby in general was really high, especially the defensive structure that all teams maintained.

    Opposite way around for me

Expecting a battle in France-South Africa, and think Fiji will win in the other semifinal.
