Beach volleyball: South America guaranteed 7 spots per tournament, most likely 8 (+1 or +2 from Lima). Sucks for the smaller Caribbean islands.

More qualification system news:
Badminton: Same system as 2019, May 2, 2023 ranking to be used. Canada has the potential to have 10 athletes (due to Cali winners).
Cycling BMX: Men and women each have 20 slots (basically balancing the quota from 2019)
Athletics: Quota stays the same, program will be the same as in Paris, all field events reduced to 12 athletes max (down from 14-16 in 2019). Now the games are being held at a bad time, so its likely everyone who wants to compete can. There is no qualification times/distances, rather the winner of four qualifying events + the World rankings from Jan 1, 2022 to September 18, 2023 will be used.

A total of 16 countries qualified wrestlers at the qualification tournament, one more than the ENTIRE 2019 Pan Am qualified list, with half the quotas still left. Not bad! (Does not include wild cards)

Hungary won the brotherly cross-border clash with Romania 4-2 on the last day at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A.

The result didn’t change much in the standings as it became already clear yesterday evening that Hungary would finish in second place while Romania would remain in last place and be relegated.

Media representatives at the Tivoli Hall were therefore more interested in what the ice hockey associations of Hungary and Slovenia announced after the game. Hungary and Slovenia, both promoted to the top division as the top-two ranked teams here, announced a joint bid for the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship that was originally planned in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The bid was presented under the motto “extreme circumstances require extreme decisions”. Since the countries have a tough time to bid for the tournament years in advance as “elevator teams” that move up and down between the top level and the Division I, they want to seize the chance with the 2023 edition to be reassigned just one year in advance and both teams being qualified. The bid includes the original game days of 5-21 May 2023.

The two countries bid with the brand-new MVM Dome in Budapest as the venue for one preliminary-round group, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and both medal games. The arena was opened last December and hosted the 2022 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship with a capacity of 19,182 spectators in an ice hockey configuration.

Slovenia’s venue would be Arena Stozice, which hosted the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A with up to 10,500 fans filling the venue at that time. It would host the other preliminary-round group and two quarter-final games.

Hungary has never hosted a top-level men’s World Ice Hockey Championship but Budapest staged the top-level U18 Women’s Worlds in 2014. Slovenia’s capital of Ljubljana was host of the 1966 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The event took place with three tournaments in former Yugoslavia with Ljubljana hosting the top division, Zagreb the B-Pool and Jesenice the C-Pool.

on April 16, 2022, Camryn Rogers tied the NR in the hammer throw with 75.73 m

FWIW Christa Deguchi confirmed in an interview w/ Radio-Canada that she’s committed through Paris 2024 at least. She mentions that she took a few months off training after failing to qualify for the Olympics but that her love for the sport has come back.

Oh wow, we were so close to CCCP!  Anyway, welcome to the former capital of Hungary, Székesfehérvár, or as many lazy people, including me, calls it, Fehérvár. It's the home of 95 thousand people and its latin name is Alba Regia, which is why many of its sport clubs and companies use "Alba" in their name.
 

 
The city is "royal" ("Székes"), the first kings of Hungary were crowned and buried here. I was debating what I should choose for the team, "Royals" or "Saints" and I went with the latter because... I sounded better to me.  In 1083 King Saint Stephen and his son, Emeric, were canonized here in Székesfehérvar. Due to the city being the capital of Hungary for many years we got many sights here. The symbol of the city is the globus cruciger (cross-brearing orb) statute, which we call országalma (country apple) in Hungarian. It's one of the five Hungarian crowning symbols: the Saint Crown, the Crowning Robe, the Royal Scepter, the Cross-brearing Orb and the Crowning Sword.

Our largest lake is the Balaton, which we will visit during the Opening Ceremony, but we got another lake next to Székesfehérvár that I should mention, Lake Velence. It's the third largest lake in Hungary and a popular holiday destination for many. But sadly it won't be for long if climate change will destroy it. The lake has lost 44% of its water in the last two years. It's a grim sign for the future of Hungary if we won't stop climate change.
 

 
To end on a happier note, Fehérvár is quite successful in team sports. They have a great ice hockey team who were in the final of the Austrian ice hockey league this year. And they have the second strongest football club in recent years, which we still call Videoton, despite the fact that the club changed its name because the company Videoton isn't sponsoring them anymore. The team won the Hungarian league 3 times.

Reminder: Pan AM Wrestling Championships start tomorrow. Top 4 from each weight class qualify for Santiago 2023. It appears max one per nation per weight category, meaning countries that earned a slot cannot earn any more, however, if they don't send the 2021 Cali Champion, they lose their quota. Weird.
