mrv86 reacted to Olympian1010 in Pan American Games 2023
Plus, when I think of three sports (or at least tow (Bowling and Racquetball)) that are dominated by Pan American nations, I think of Bowling and Racquetball (and kind of Squash). Our nations have prospered in those sports because of their inclusion in the games. It’s just sad

Agree with Sponsored Doping (or bodybuilding as everyone else knows it)
About Basque Pelota, probably just including 4 events, two in each gender. Trinquete Paleta Goma & Frontenis
As @intoronto shocked they decided to drop Bowling, as there's no need for a new venue and any real city has at least one alley; same for squash and racquetball, since they usually are held at indoor small existing venues.

mrv86 reacted to dcro in International Olympic Committee News
Yeah, IOC talks big about gender equality, and then in between such statements they approve IAAF's qualification system. Qualification system that only allows one universality place per nation. Not one per gender, like it was a practice for years, but one in total. That's literally setting up a number of nations to have only a single athlete in Tokyo.

I also think it’s a right for every nation to be able to send 1 man and 1 woman conversely.

Schedule is out for day 1. Very interesting to see Tuvalu competing.
But after those robberies in Africa last week, I'm afraid we can expect lots of dubious decisions in favor of Jordan and the usual suspects...

@Benolympique @mrv86 Looks like we made it! (Just noticed the number of quota doesn't fit the maximum number from section B1 of qualification system document, but it fits maximum quotas for all events).

I wonder if Paralympic athletes count. today we heard a tragic news in middle of all these disasters
Siamand Rahman, two time Paralympics Champion in Powerlifting, (2012 and 2016) current World record holder died today from heart attack at the age of 31
he was the most famous Paralympics athlete in Iran and maybe one of the best in the world . RIP

I'm still expecting UCI to confirm the final standings, but at this point, only Malaysia could add or lose points. Great quota for Suriname, on the other hand Czechs must be quite dissapointed after missing the opportunity to overtake the absent Canadians.
Again, South Africa "steals" the last spot due to Special Provisions which were made to ensure all continents had at least one rider in both, sprint and endurance events.

I'm excluding those teams already qualified for Team Pursuit. Said that, France and Spain have a secure quota even if they don't start tomorrow. Belgium just needs to finish the race to guarantee a spot, and the Americans have also a foot in Tokyo. Every other team is still in contention, so it could be a very interesting race.

This should be the final standings, but it will only be confirmed after tomorrow's Madison. Again South Africa adds another continental quota, while the Kazakh rider had the race of his life to get the final spot over Canada and Mexico, with the later quota miss still haunting me after Prado just gave up from the first race this morning.

Wai Sze Lee just gave her teammate a free pass to the Olympics; that being said, I think Japan and France are almost secure with their quotas, while riders from & could steal a quota from the others if they riders perform really well.

mrv86 got a reaction from intoronto in Track Cycling Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
If I read correctly, yes if a NOC qualified for keirin, it can enter a competitor in sprint, and viceversa.
So if Canada clinches a spot in keirin tomorrow, yes, they can enter both riders in sprint.

We now know the men’s finalists too:

Galla
Duffy
Granja
Valencia
Waller
Santos Buhl

This is essentially US national selection with a little added excitement. The Ecuadorians are the strongest speed climbers, so a decent Boulder or Lead could give them a fighting chance. Mexico and Brazil are generally weak, but they’ve managed to create some climber apparently. Mexico could make some inroads in Speed, but he’ll to seriously improve upon his Lead. Brazil is little more than a wall decoration I’m afraid (he actually had a weirdly good Lead performance in Qualification).
