  4. Congratulations to Canada! They've already secured a quota in women's by team's ranking with one lifter yet to compete. Tomorrow the competition will finish for women, with Cuba in a good position to secure a quota, while Peru has no chance at all. In men's, today a Mexican lifter bombed out, so I'll have to wait until Saturday to know if they will win quota via the Championships or if they will do so by individual rankings... in either case it seems the national federation will send Cuban born Bredni Roque as the representative to Rio.
  5. The top 6 placements in Men's and top 4 placements in Women's.
  6. Meanwhile, Venezuela is out of contention in the team's classification. So far 3 out of 8 of its competitors did not finish; still they have one athlete in the top 15 individual rankings, so they probably will use that place. Also one men from USA and Canada did not finish today, so their lifters must try to obtain a good result in the next few days.
  7. After one day of no info, IWF has finally updated the results and live score for the Pan American Championships... In day one Colombia grab all three golds in dispute; but as they've already secured qualification in both genders, the top positions for qualification went to Canada (W -48), Mexico (M -56) and El Salvador (M -62) Sadly, El Salvador missed their chance for a spot in Rio; their top lifter couldn't take a spot in the top 15 individual rank, and as they only field 2 lifters (the other one with a DNF), their chances of making to the Olympics,
  8. Just before the main round of the last tournament that gives points I have come to the following scenario on qualification via ranking: Women World Ranking (finish in top 15 secured): Still to define 2 direct places plus the reallocated host quota due to Brazil already qualifying 2 pairs (the other one from 2015 World Championships). NOC's currently holding those places are (in order): There are 3 pairs from that can overtake them. Here's what the minimum they need to do in the last tournament in order to grab the last spot UKOLOVA/BIRLOVA: advance to quarterfinals and that Chinese or Argentinian pairs don't advance to the 2nd round of direct elimination. MATAUATU/PATA: finish in 4th place; Chinese or Argentinian pairs don't advance to the 2nd round of direct elimination; Russian pair doesn't advance to quarterfinals, LEHTONEN/LAHTI: finish in 3rd place; Chinese or Argentinian pairs don't advance to the 2nd round of direct elimination; Russian pair doesn't advance to quarterfinals; Vanuatu doesn't advance to semifinals. Men World Ranking (finish in top 15 secured): There remain (mathematically) 4 places plus the reallocated host quota due to Brazil already qualifying 2 pairs (the other one from 2015 World Championships). NOC's currently holding those places are (in order): There are 2 pairs from that can overtake them. Here's what the minimum they need to do in the last tournament in order to grab the last spot VIRGEN/ONTIVEROS: advance to quarterfinals and that either BOCKERMANN/FLUGGEN or ERDMANN/MATYSIK (the German pairs) don't advance to the 2nd round of direct elimination. BINSTOCK/SCHACHTER: finish in 3rd place; both German pairs don't advance to the 2nd round of direct elimination; Mexican pair doesn't advance to quarterfinals,
  9. Mexican Federation and NOC confirmed the allocation of a 2nd place in women's (most probably due to Netherlands rejecting its second quota) The place will go to Cecilia Perez.
  10. Results from Mexican Championships (athletes achieving qualification standard only): Ivonne Trevino - Women's Long Jump - 6.70 m NR Edgar Rivera - Men's High Jump - 2.29 m (already qualified but his previous mark was indoor) Arturo Chavez - Men's High Jump - 2.29 m
  11. Finally, after 48 years Mexico returns to the Olympics in Volleyball I know it will be hard for them to win more than 10 points in each set, but thanks to this monster of qualification (which I say was unfair to stronger teams) this generation (maybe the best of my country, even when they weren't that impressive) can fulfill their dream of playing in the Summer Games.
  12. And suddenly Chile seems to be en route to Rio... Mexico is losing with Tunisia 1-2 right now... either they win 4th set or score 23 or more points to advance. If not Chileans will be 12th team
  13. Just remembered another two: Malta - Miss You Azerbaijan - Əlvida
  14. The only ones that 'enjoy' this tournament are the national federations pocketing thousands of dollars out of a mediocre competition level...
  15. A great conclussion of an excellent edition! I really enjoyed Slovak music, the 60's in particular. So until next time!!
  16. Thank you! Not I hope they can pull it off tomorrow against Tunisia
  17. Well for the Canadians to win this game and the Poles do what they're supposed to.
  18. In the end, I think the local factor helped Mexico overcome an amazing Chilean side... I'm impressed, I think Chile is growing a lot while Mexico is going once again down, unless they do some serious work from youth level.
  19. Do you know the reason why Tunisian team underperformed yesterday against Chile? I thought they were going to win the tournament easily.
