  1. I agree that Finucane is probably marginal favourite for the gold but I can understand their logic - that home crowd advantage will give Mathilde Gros the edge in the sprint - but I don't think that Gros has managed to defeat Finucane in a head-to-head across the qualifying window. For the rowing, those two are more difficult to predict. China are always strong in the quadruple sculls, as are the Netherlands. As for the British Four, they had a disappointing end to 2023 at Worlds so are in a bit a rebuild phase. They should be able to get on the podium, but I wouldn't have them as favourite at the moment.
  2. No - purely a reference to fact that Ngamba was also in the team who travelled to compete in Finland. There's been no change in her refugee status.

  14. Irish media are reporting that Amy Broadhurt's switch to represent has taken a further step forward after receiving clearance from the IOC Boxing Taskforce. Broadhurst also travelled with the GB squad to Colorado last week and was part of their training camp. Registration for the final qualification tournament in Bangkok closes tomorrow, so we may have a squad announcement by the weekend.
  15. Fairly chunky GB squad competing in the World Boxing Boxing Cup in Colorado this week. W50Kg - Savannah Stubley has bye in round 1 and faces Lexus Ramirez in QF W50Kg - Demie-Jade Resztan has bye in round 1 and will face either Sofie Rosshuag or Jennifer Lozano in QF W54Kg - Charley Davison v. Shera Mae Patricio W57Kg - Elise Glynn has bye in round 1 and will face Alyssa Mendoza in QF W57Kg - Sameenah Toussaint has bye in round 1 and faces Amina Zidani W60Kg - Shona Whitwell v. Wen Lu Yang W60Kg - Gemma Richardson v. Felicitas Ganglbauer W75Kg - Chantelle Reid v. Emma Greentree M57Kg - Owain Harris-Allan v. Frederik Jensen M63.5Kg - Reese Lynch v. Ousainou Hansen M63.5Kg - Joe Tyers v. Jaggar Altoft M63.5Kg - Patris Mughalzai v. Jahmal Harvey M71Kg - Harris Akbar v. Kevin Scott M71Kg - Lewis Richardson v. Milos Barti M80Kg - Taylor Bevan v. Tuohetaerbieke M80Kg - Ramtin Musah v. Wanderley Pereira M92+Kg - Delicious Orie v. Abner Teixeira It's good to see a bit more variety in terms of the opponents that British fighters will be up against and they've some tough match-ups to look forward to. In the W54Kg class Shera Mae Patricio got to the quota fight at Busto Arsizio before losing out to Thailand's Jitpong so will give a good indication of where Davison is. Likewise, Elise Glynn's opponent - Alyssa Mendoza - was another fighter to fall short in the quota bout in Italy. On the men's side, both Musah and Orie's opponents are qualified for Paris. Orie has had mixed results of late so this is a good opportunity to test himself against another Paris bound fighter.
  16. To be fair to Evans, she won her event whilst Peters was only third in his final so the circumstances aren't all that related. Although I do agree with you that they are putting too much emphasis on the freestyle relays at the expense of the other events.
  17. I'd guess that the reason that Peters ultimately didn't get selected was because he finished 3rd so they couldn't justify picking him over Gammon given the priority they give to performances in the final.
  18. Israel and Suriname don't have a 2nd eligible rider to take so it's less of a question of whether they refuse the second quota and more a question of how UCI handles the reallocation. Given it is 2 places at stake, I think it is likely they give 1 quota to sprint rankings and the other to the keirin. If they give both to the same event, it could lead to protest.
  19. So our very own Nostradamus, with his endless stream of dire predictions, has been proved wrong........yet again. Maybe this time he will acknowledge that he was talking utter rubbish but I won't hold my breath.
  20. It's based on my interpretation of the qualification document: According to that section, the quota goes to the next highest-ranked NOC which has not yet qualified for the respective event - Colombia has already qualified a rider for the individual sprint through the keirin ranking so by my reading, they would not be eligible for quota reallocation and it would move down to Hungary.
  21. Final track cycling quota projection: I think there are 2 quota reallocations on the cards on the men's side - Israel and Suriname don't have a second eligible rider and so they will have to reject the quota. Assuming that is the case, I'd project that and will get an individual quota for sprint/keirin. On the women's side, there is only 1 quota which should be subject to reallocation - Italy don't have an eligible second rider in the keirin/sprint behind Miriam Vece. In the most likely scenario, Italy will probably reject the keirin quota resulting in picking up the spot for sprint/keirin. However, it may be possible that Italy could accept the second individual keirin quota and use it to nominate an extra endurance rider. Technically, I don't see anything in the qualification document that would prevent this - unless the eligibility clause relating to 10 points applies to the individual event - and it would give them the option of resting a rider for team pursuit qualifying. Given the team pursuit is run over 2 days rather than 1, I'm not sure it would actually give them that much of an edge though, so I'd still expect them to return the quota.
  22. Can't see scenario where you get a second quota. Poland improved their ranking in Keirin after Milton but it wasn't enough to get into a quota spot and I think because they already have a quota in the event, they would not be eligible for any reallocation.
  23. Amber Simpson breaks the 70m barrier for the first time in the hammer event at Garry Wieneke Memorial Illinois. I think that's a 3m PB but she'll still need to find another 2m to meet the UKA standard.
  24. Amelia Campbell got an outdoor season's best of 17.71m at the Beach Invitational in California over the weekend - still someway short of the 18.03 she achieved in January in Spain.
