Looks like our guy Iakovidis might make it in men's 96 if China and Belarus don't select that weight, and if Venezuela and Colombia get banned. Russia, Albania, and Iran can't select that weight because they are limited in their team size due to penalties. But there are five Chinese men in first place and they can select four, so what are the chances that they don't select this guy? Belarus has three guys in fourth place and can only select one.

People are very upset with Pyrros Dimas because he decided to not send a team to the 2019 World Championships and they feel that it hurt our qualification chances.

Good news for u. China will not choose women’s 59kg for sure and 90% will not choose men’s 96kg.

Do you have a prediction on which weights CHina will choose in the end?

My guess

Women: 49 55 87 87+
Men: 61 67 73 81

We will have final answers in 2 or 3 days anyway.

this list is not final. they just removed other weightlifters from the same country and forced weightlifters to pick one weight

and as expected :AUT Martirosjan and :ESP Ruiz did the dirty job and picked +109kg just to go to Tokyo. that's kind of disgusting

checking the lists. that wasn't just dirty. that was also stupid for :ESP Marcos Ruiz. he would qualify in his own weight and maybe even stand a slim chance for medal. he would be #12 in 109kg ranking which was good enough for the European quota. (after removing Yang Zhe, all Europeans above him would be in top 8)

same goes to :AUT Martirosjan, of course only one of them would qualify, but without Ruiz he could have the best European quota. now it goes to :UKR Roman Zaitsev (Ukraine's replacement for Chumak)

Do you think is it still possible to change category or change lifter in the same category temporarily after arriving Tokyo? In my memory, China changed 49kgHou Zhihui to 55kg Li Yajun in Rio due to her sudden injury. @MHSN

I am hoping that China won’t choose W-55kg, our most likely lone representative Hidilyn expressed that this might be her last Olympic Games. It is really hard to beat China in Weightlifting their technique is really impressive. On the other hand, a win over China who is the standard in this sport, makes it hugely convincing.

Does all this effect Kuworge's chances? If so, I am also against the move of changing weights just to make the Olympics. If not, I find that a smart move :p

This is what happens when the Spanish federation prefers having 5 athletes instead of 4 and some chances to get a medal... By choosing +109kg, they are expecting Armenia to pick Simon Martirosyan in -109 instead of Gor Minasyan, so Marcos qualifies through ranking and Spain gets the continental quota in -67kg with Acorán Hernández.

I don't think so, rules were completely different back then. this year they award the quotas to the athletes, not the NOCs. even if someone gets hurt, the next weightlifter in the world ranking will go.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
