I'm not sure about it, but the person who did the draw ceremony mumbled something like that. The men's tournament has quarter finals and semi finals for sure.

I'm reading that there will be quarterfinals for the women, still trying to find something more official.

Hungarian media report that there will be QFs. So this is a bad draw for us, because we will have to defeat Netherlands or Italy for the Olympics in the SF.

:NED and :ITA in the same poule at the Olympic Qualification tournament. In the end only 10 teams are participating (Africa and South America withdrew), therefore there will be only a round robin. Both poule winners qualify for the Olympics. Not very happy with this draw, against Italy in Italy.

Weird, you'd think they would have had at least a semi-final match

both men and women's tournaments have the same format: preliminary groups, then the top 4 in each group advance to quarterfinals, QTFs winners advance to semifnals and there will be also placement finals...

women's tournament has 2 quota up for grabs, men's tournament has 3...

this is the full draw of the women's tournament (Triest, ITA, March 8th - March 15th)

Group A

:ITA Italy

:NED Netherlands

:FRA France

:SVK Slovakia

:WHT TBD (Asia #2)

Group B

:HUN Hungary

:GRE Greece

:ISR Israel

:NZL New Zealand

:WHT TBD (Asia #1)

Well, let's just hope that we will do the same thing that we did in women's Table Tennis, and we will steal the quota from the OQT host. :d

how come they know there will be 2 Asian countries interested to participate ? I think only China and Kazakhstan will participate at the Asian qualifiers and one of them (China) will qualify from Asia.

South Africa will use their continental quota in both genders?

I mean, I am more afraid of Netherlands, we barely beat them at the Euros in Budapest. Italy on the other hand didn't look so strong at the ECh, but maybe they will improve for the OQT.

According to Wikipedia, :PRK:SGP:UZB are also interested.

I have doubts about Korea (as anyone might), but Uzbekistan participating would be feasible.

    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
