In an upset, Laurence VINCENT-LAPOINTE (ie 6x world champion) has NOT been selected for the C-1 event, as she lost out to Katie Vincent in a 3 race series (she won the last two races).  With the C-2 looking highly unlikely to qualify, probably the world's best female canoeist is not going to be in Tokyo.

Canada does hate winning gold medals at the Summer Olympics so it makes sense.

Fixed it. :p

"“We are so thrilled to see two of the best paddlers in the world racing together after such a long hiatus and a challenging period of time,” said Casey Wade, CKC Chief Executive Officer. “With respect to the women’s C2 500m event, we continue to work closely with the International Canoe Federation to secure an additional women’s canoe Olympic quota spot due to extenuating circumstances dating back to the 2019 World Championships. This will also allow us to have a second entry in the women’s C1 200m Event.

Is this new? Multiple entries in canoeing!?

Not unless the rules changed very recently.

Wade is probably citing the rule where athletes qualified in one event can compete in other events, but the one boat per event rule still applies.

For Tokyo they specifically changed the rules to allow up to two boats per nation.

According to qualification rules

So, if I interpret correctly, quotas could be distributed like this:

W C1 200m: :BRA

W C2 500m: Should go to :USA but Nevin Harrison already qualified in C1 200, so not sure what they will do.

W K1 200m: :ARG

W K1 500m:  :CAN

W K2 500m: :USA

M C1 1000m: :CUB

M C2 1000m: :CAN

M K1 200m: :ARG

M K1 1000m:  :BRA

M K2 1000m: :CAN

Just by the looks of it, I don't think Canada will send more than 4 kayak in each discipline (based on how the internal qualifiers have gone). Who would be the backups in the two events Canada stands to gain quotas in?

Chile for Women's K1 and Argentina for Men's K2, which could allow them to compete in K4.

    • Took a couple of videos, but completely forgot to take even a single picture and the file size of the videos are too big for Totallympics so I had to find a site to upload it to   https://streamable.com/ga23lv   Vibes at the game were good, place was loud, and I downed a $6 poutine from Costco before the game. Unfortunately, the game didn’t go so well, it took us a solid 45 minutes to actually start playing hockey besides some bursts here and there, and after coming back from down 1-3 we gave up the OT goal less than a minute in (Typical Canucks fashion), but  Lankinen stole us a point, they had so many solid opportunities on him and we had no business staying close.    Really mediocre start to the season for the Canucks so far, even with 11 points in 8 games, a lot of players not showing up (Petey, Soucy, Myers, Hög, Miller, DeBrusk, although for DeBrusk he’s been known to have a streaky game) and our power play and overtime have been fucking dogshit (power play has been like this for years). Shoutout to Garland, Hughes, Sherwood and Lankinen though they’ve been incredible so far
