I think covid is a possible factor for the underperformance of Southeast Asian countries. The infection rate has been increasing in the past couple of months in that region, which you have to think limits the amount of hours/days that the athletes could go and practice at their facilities. They might have days where they can't get out of the house and have to stay home instead because of government order for quarantine purposes.

Saying that, Chinese Taipei deserves kudos for getting four quotas despite having to travel far. And in someway it's not surprising, considering how well that country has taken care of the pandemic since the outbreak.

Yes!!! Quota for ?????? with a dramatic finish hahaha ?

Quite a disappointment for our more experienced female jins (Lopez and Alora) I was expecting them to get the quotas instead of Barbosa. No news about injuries, but the pandemic and repeated lockdowns in the country could have affected their performance. Their training bubble started only this year and lasted only for 3 months, there were no foreign sparring partners except for the local ones. Last tournament for our jins was the Manila SEA Games way back in December of 2019.

Congrats to Kiani of Iran for getting another quota for her country. Her matches vs THA and vs JOR were not easy. Well deserved victory.

There are still wild cards available in the higher weights. Hopefully they will get one, they deserve something in this sport.

Afghanistan hasn't participated in higher weights anywhere world champs (not even the non Olympic weights after -68kg ).So I can't see them getting a tripartite. Here also they chose 2 lightest weights each category.

Chad might get a quota in +67kg W. Burkina Faso or Central African Republic of Equatorial Guinea (-80) and/or Libya or Cambodia  (+80) will get 1 quota in Men's . Lebanon, Pakistan also in the mix.

But almost surely Chad will get the women's quota in +67kg. Tajikistan has little less chance in that category

Here's a list of tripartite eligible nations who competed at the continental qualifiers. Of course participation in the continental qualifiers is not a requirement, but it can give an idea on which nations are actively trying to qualify. Note: Gabon, Mali and North Macedonia have qualified quotas in other events so imagine they will be less likely to be selected.

Men's -80kg: :ARU:BOT:BUR:CAM:CAY:COD:GEQ:GAB:GUM:GUY:HON:KUW:MKD:NCA

Men's +80kg: :KUW:LBA:MLI:MOZ:PAK

Women's -67kg: :COD:GAB:MKD

Women's +67kg: :CHA:GAB:HON:NCA

Though now looking at the list, I wouldn't be surprised if Gabon or even North Macedonia is given the women's -67kg quota. Even looking at the -62kg and -67kg events at the 2019 World Championships only Montenegro emerges as an option. Of course it wouldn't be the first time a nation which made no attempt to qualify regularly was given a quota.

    • Besides, I think Eitrem will be better than Ghiotto. You can see it after 1500 meters. He is younger. The whole Norwegian team is also in great shape. You just have to look at the team Norway has, how many new and young skaters there are and in our group A there is one Trentini, who takes last place. In every winter sport we invest too little money to be counted.   If Eitrem has the same form over long distances as he does over 1500 metres, he will dominate this season, not Ghiotto or Roest.
    • Looking at last season's 1st World Cup, it's worse for now and it should be the other way around. Bosa out of shape, Trentini weak. Both will drop to a lower group. It's similar to skeleton, i.e. regression instead of progress. I hope this doesn't mean Ghiotto is also in weaker form, because it could end up with 0 podiums this weekend.
    • In general, our picture for a little over 1 year until the home games looks like this:     - the women's sector is still based on one Lollo, who is 3 years older than 2022, - the women's and men's sprint sector is based on one Bosa and possibly the young Pergher (0% possobility for medal in 2026), - Ghiotto has made a lot of progress and that is a big plus. He could result to give our even 3 medals, including 1/2 gold. Our team's performance also depends to a large extent on Ghiotto's form, - the rest of the men's team is basically unchanged. There is Giovannoni in the mass start, there is Malfatti in the longer distances, but they are not competitors on the podium of a major event.   I will repeat myself: if Ghiotto continues to make such progress, we will probably win 3 medals, 2 of which gold and it will be a success. If something doesn`t work out, an injury, illness, etc. (we know from Vitozzi that this can happen to anyone), then it could be very bad. By the way, this also applies to other sports: the above-mentioned Vitozzi in biathlon, Goggia in downhill, Brignone in giant slalom, etc.
    • With the World Cup season in most of the winter sports about to begin and qualification in some sports already underway, I think it's about time for this thread.    Template    ... • Today is a day without Italians in the leads positions. I`m worried that they are not trying to revive this our sprint. There is only one Bosa and he is old. Pergher is young but she is also only one. It is a pity. After the Olympics they will probably 100% give up on the entire sprint. Our medal bag in Cortina will depend 90% on Ghiotto, just like it did on Fabris in Turin 2006. If Ghiotto will be in goodshape, he can even win 2 individual golds + a team medal. If not, it will be a flop. Apart from him, only Lollobrigida can compete in the mass start and possibly Giovannini in the men's mass start.
    • Yup, actually they have just some juniors pairs in the dance event
