Swimming at the Aquatics LEN European Championships 2020

Recommended Posts

Well :SUI has just jumped into the top 4 already. Ha

And in the next heat :ESP go faster.

And :FRA beats them both.

All 3 into the final tonight. Likely 2 places on offer with :SUI on the outside now

Karoline Sørensen not so good, but the rest did fine putting us at a new NR. We really need a new top class swimmer for the backstroke to do better in the medley

NR for Tomáš klobučník in 100 Breaststroke, half a second behind Tokyo standard, but still the best svk swimming result in the whole 4 years cycle :) If we´ll by any chance receive a traditional wild card in swimming I believe he´ll be the fav to get it

and for womens side it looks more and more for Andrea Podmaníková who set our 2nd NR here this week (W 200m Breaststroke) and confirmed the Olympic Selection Time aka "B" standard.

If we will get the 2 wild cards, Klobučník & Podmaníková are the favs to get them, which would be quite strange and unique that our team would have only breaststroke specialists at the Olympics which never happened in the past

In the upcoming mixed 4x100m medley relay, the European countries who are qualified are :RUS:GBR  :ITA:NED  :GER:BLR:ISR:POL:HUN

The 4 nations occupying the rankings are

:CHN 3:38:41

:JPN 3:44:75

:KOR 3:47:92

:BRA 3:48:61

Only Brazil looks possibly in danger there but even then I think nearly every country will have to swim a NR to qualify

Brazil's time is actually 3:45.52 from the latest trials.

Still can't watch a race of Pellegrini without hearing the semi-old Italian dude sitting next to me all week at Barcelona 2013 go fe-de-ri-ca fe-de-ri-ca fe-de-ri-ca for the entire duration of every race with Pellegrini :p

Can't say this was much better when he started doing a similar thing during every full race of.....Gregorio Paltrinieri :hairpull:

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
