but that least that's much better than losing your chance completely for reasons you can't do anything about.

I asked that question because unless something extra ordinary happens tonight (or tomorrow morning), Iran is going to miss the Sabre World Cup in Egypt, for the same old reason. denying visa. they are still trying through FIE though.

the first thing I checked was to see who are the hosts of the next world Cups, Italy, Hungary and Poland, none of them are notorious to create these kind of problems , so hopefully nothing bad happens.

:fingers:

With Verwijlen 14th currently holding the European quota and Tulen 17th, I found out that the Dutch NOC requirement to not refuse a quota (earned through ranking or the qualification tournament) this time is to be in Top 14 of the ranking (max. 3 fencers per country) as of April 2020...totally insane in an event where almost everyone who qualify has a realistic chance to win a medal.

Epee has absolutely insane ranking. If you realize there is 8th in Rank :KAZ Kurbanov who has not secured the Olympic spot or on 10th place :JPN Minobe who is currently FIE Rank world No.3 .... Just proves it is getting more difficult to get to the Olympics than win a medal in there.

From what I can tell, this is more of a team’s being better than individuals issue. They’ll still have a second chance of course at the zonal qualifiers next year.

yeah, with just 1 or 2 places up for grabs...

when you have at least all the top 50 in the WR well capable on a given day to win a world cup medal (if not a major title)...

there's really too little room for fencers not coming from the top 6/7 Nations in each discipline (especially Epee), who are granted their spot in the individual events only because of the team qualification (which is even more crazy when you think that also a almost non existent continent like Africa has a granted team spot, if they are just decent enough to make the top 16 -when only 4 teams overall does qualify other than the continental representation -also in this case, only 1 place for Europe compared to the same treatment for the Americas, that obviously don't have the same depth)...

to me, there are many things to be reviewed in the Fencing Olympic status and qualification process (they absolutely deserve more teams in the team events -with a different balance in the continental representation- and more individual spot for athletes not coming from those stronger teams)...

Finally the full Olympic rankings also available on the FIE site:

Spoiler

or maybe they were there since the beginning and I've never noticed them. :mumble:

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
