It will be tight between :SVK and :ROU. ISR/AUS are out.

After Albstadt...

Slovakia 2452 (+6)

Romania 2398 (+70)

If the same happens in Nove Mesto, Romania would take over that last spot. Slovakia is probably destined to add the minimum 6 (or 9) points, in which case Romania (Dascalu) has to finish 22nd (or 21st) to go ahead.

I think no one has mentioned it yet but this race within the race could prove to be very important to the Olympic race in itself ...

As we speak :GBR is 32nd in the rankings and therefore will not earn any spot thanks to it, whatever Tom Pidcock does in NMNM. So Pidcock, a man we can consider as a top notch outsider for the medals, even the title, is currently out of the Games.

But, if Dascalu should repeat this top 20 and overtake Slovakia in the process, then Romania would be qualified via the rankings, thus releasing its U23 2019 WC quota (earned by Dascalu), which would transfer to the next athlete in this race from a non already qualified country ... Can anyone find the Olympic Rankings on the UCI/MTB site?  They used to be on the same page as the other World rankings (https://www.uci.org/mountain-bike/rankings ) but seem to have disappeared.  Pretty crucial to work out what the official position is ahead of the last ranking event and after last weekend.

it will not be updated, it seems to me that they had the same thing for the rankings of the track or the road, to leave the suspense ^^

still, Pidcock could be selected for the road race and then he'd be entitled to participate also to the MTB race...

No. Double starts are not allowed unless the NOC qualified in both disciplines.

And even so, given the schedule, I don't see anyone starting in both road and MTB...

well, in this case, the road race would be only an escamotage, a fake start, abandoning after a few mins of "training"...

Don't think so. As Dcro said I'm pretty sure you need to have a quota in the discipline to do so. If not, what is the purpose of the qualification phase and the limited field ?

Concerning the fake start I don't know if the rule has changed. I know we did it in 2012 to register a Keirin specialist (M.Bourgain) not taking part in the team sprint, but the Keirin quota did exist. Hard to make much more than the "bona fide effort"...

From the section of the qualification document entitled “Reserve Athletes”

which means that if Dascalu makes it on his own and gives his U-23 spot to GBR, then it's basically certain that they can do the trick by selecting Pidcock for the road race...

and they could even do that in any case by sacrificing another less competitive cyclist of a different discipline/event (thinking of some girls in road racing or MTB, if they are in qualifying position)...

I definitely see Pidcock at the start of the Olympic MTB race...

    • Totallympics Annual International Song Contest 2025      Thank you Slovenia! Argentina get their second 12 points of this year's contest to keep their hopes of a podium finish very much alive.   Big points also for Italy who become the 3rd nation to breach the 100-point barrier and they close the gap to France in 2nd.   That concludes the third session of this year's TISC Annual. Ireland maintain the lead as they have from the very start of the contest. Their lead now stands at 28 points which is sizeable though not insurmountable with 8 juries still to vote, including Ireland.   We will take a 1 hour 30 minute break now and will resume the fourth and final session at 19:00 GMT.      Juries Voted: 26/34    1  Ireland 2 136  18  Guatemala   53  2  France 4 108  19  Netherlands   51  3  Italy 11 102  20  Tunisia   50  4  Argentina 12 96  21  Denmark   49  5  Romania   85  22  Poland   48  6  Albania 9 85  23  Sweden 1 46  7  Spain   84  24  Lithuania 3 45  8  Germany 7 84  25  Malta 5 43  9  Canada   74  26  Turkey 10 43  10  Mexico   73  27  Greece   37  11  Serbia   66  28  Slovenia   36  12  Kazakhstan 8 65  29  China   34  13  Portugal   65  30  Bulgaria   32  14  Great Britain 6 63  31  Indonesia   30  15  United States   62  32  Slovakia   28  16  Ukraine   57  33  Brazil   28  17  Israel   55  34  India   15
