Figure Skating ISU World Championships 2021

Recommended Posts

Looks about 30~ countries should qualify for Beijing here. Not bad (32 competed in PyeongChang).

If we use this tournament to allocate the Nebelhorn Trophy results, a further 3 would qualify, :AUS, :TPE and :TUR

:NED van Zundert is now guaranteed a top 16. Hopefully it’s enough for her no fun allowed NOC to accept the dang quota.

I tried to find the Dutch selection criteria, but I had no luck.

Great, although there's going to be some quota rejections as per usual.

Lithuania will end up rejecting their ice dance quota due citizenship laws

Netherlands are likely to reject their ladies quota

etc.

Netherlands would have the dumbest NOC ever should they decline that quota.

2005 skater entered Top 16 and became the first Dutch to qualify since 1976.

No way they decline that.

Figure skating is the only sport for which the Dutch NOC has not published their internal selection criteria yet.

There's a very realistic chance they won't accept the quota yet though, as the philosophy is that every athlete that will go to Beijing has to prove that they have a realistic chance of finishing top 8 in Beijing. I don't think a top 16 here is sufficient. :wall:

I am quite frustrated at how vaguely the qualification system is written tbh.

Well, tell me about that. I don't know what to say ..... I think ISU also confused themselves. Anyways, official quota will be released by ISU by April 11 latest. So let's wait till that date and see.

I wish the German federation would take the same approach.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
