How Many Medals do You Expect from Your Nation at the Winter Olympic Games 2018?

Moioli seemed very strong in last races (home effect ?) and Jacobellis is not to be underestimated ... but I will not lie, that would be my preference :p

well, I was a bit supertitious there...actually, I think Moioli and Jacobellis are by far the 2 best SBX specialists, but they also have a long history of "Olympic epic fails"...so, as I wrote, I really think that a French sweep is possible (the other 2 girls with some potential to stop them are Gulini and maybe Samkova, even if in this season she hasn't shown her best shape yet...the rest of the field is well behind those girls and I don't think they have a shot at the podium places)...

Wouldn't put it past Canada to sweep either the men's slopestyle or big air in snowboarding either...

nor the US to sweep the HP events in Snowboard (even if the Asian competitors may have different ideas)...

you know...those X-Games "owned by judges" events...:whistle::facepalm:

:POL

From 0 to 4 :d

I believe that Stoch and the team will win the medals, Nowakowska in biathlon also have chance if she will repeat her current results. I think that we have alos little chances for medal in speed skating, maybe womens team, maybe Waś on 500m, but it will be hard.

Germany winning 6 medals only in singles (in luge) isn't even impossible (though not highly likely, especially 3 in the men's is not the most expected outcome), I'd say a realistic maximum for Germany in terms of medals there is 9 (if everything works out perfect, but not entirely impossible). If I was a German luge fan, I'd be disappointed with anything less than 6 medals.

I have the same expectations:

Good:

Gold+silver in doubles

Gold in the team

Gold+silver/bronze in womens singles

Gold in mens singles

4 golds, 6 medals in total

Great, not completely unrealistic:

Sweep in doubles

Gold in the team

Sweep in womens singles

Gold in mens singles

4 golds, 8 medals in total

I can't answer your questions about bob, luge and skeleton, because I'm not sure what you mean. Too low? Too high?

I do not expect a second medal in Snowboard. I would be very happy, if we win one. But the second possibility is Boardercross, men.

Alpine Skiing: If Neureuther and Luitz weren't injured, my guess would have been 0 - 5 medals. As it is, I see chances with Rebensburg (two disciplines), men's speed and in the team event. I know that nothing of this is even a very high chance, except maybe Vicky in Giant Slalom, but note that I also mentioned 0 medals as a possibility.

I definitely think that we have a chance for a medal in women's team event's in Cross Country.

Too low of course ...

Interesting that you didnt mention the team event in alpine skiing.

I did mention the team event in Alpine Skiing.

As for Luge: If everything works perfectly, we might get 7 medals. But IMO everything more than 7 is highly unrealistic.

And since I do not believe in a medal in men's Skeleton, my hopes are that both Lölling and Herrmann will win a medal in the women's competition. But I concede that a men's medal is possible.

As for Bobsleigh: I have to admit that I have still my doubts how they will do on tracks outside of Europe, that's why I made a low guess. But I'll say this: I consider a German sweep in men's bobsleigh much more likely than in men's luge.

Which makes me think of another question: which events do you think are the most likely to see a one-country podium? To be clear, mentioning an event doesn't mean you actually expect this to happen, just that in your opinion it's a bigger possibility than other events (for example I don't think men's 5000m will be swept by the Netherlands, but it's still 100% more likely than the women's 500m :p ).

Women's luge - Germany

Men's ski jumping (normal and large hill) - Germany/Norway

Nordic combined (both individual events) - Germany/Norway

Cross-country (several events) - Norway

This came to mind real quick :p

Alpine skiing:

Mens downhill/super-g: Norway

Biathlon:

Any individual even on the mens side: Norway

Bobsleigh:

Mens 2/4-man: Germany

Cross-country skiing:

Norway on either side in many events

Figure skating:

Womens individual: Russia

Freestyle skiing:

Mens halfpipe: USA

Luge:

Womens singles/doubles: Germany

Nordic combined:

Germany/Norway

Short track:

South Korea

Skeleton:

Women: Germany

Ski jumping:

Germany/Norway, maybe even Poland

Speed skating:

Netherlands

Snowboarding:

Halfpipe/big air/slopestyle: USA, Japan, Canada, Norway

Luge:

doubles: Germany

Each federation can send a maximum of two luge doubles to PyeongChang. Geueke/Gamm are only replacement, if one of the other two doubles cannot participate.
