Ski Jumping at the Nordic Skiing FIS World Championships 2021

Recommended Posts

Stefan Kraft leads after Round 1 by a rather comfortable margin. He was already winning all the training sessions so gold seems out of reach.

Great effort from :UKR Vitali Kalinichenko to make the second round!

The year of the insane fluke performances continues for Austria. They must hope that this year never ends. Too bad that they won’t come even remotely close to those results at the Olympics.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Given how nobody knows the Beijing hills it's very probable we have another fluke there too ;)

Yes, but very unlikely that the new fluke is from the same nation as the current fluke. Also I was talking about alpine skiing, biathlon and Nordic combined as well.

You can count on some flukes in the speed events, I can't possibly even imagine how bad the downhill slope will be. We are due another Tommy Moe or Daniela Ceccarelli gold medal out of nowhere :p

Here is my prediction for Austria:

Biathlon: 0 golds (obviously)

Nordic combined: 0 golds

Ski jumping: 1 or 2 golds

Alpine skiing: 2 golds at best

This year they won 7 golds in those sports.

Austrians admitted they used some new suit sleeves with golf ball-like layer technology or something. It was apparently tested by FIS at Planica many years ago and now Austrians went back to it. Polish trainer Dolezal said he knew Austrians were doing something with the suits but they didn't want to copy anything so close before the championships. So, ski jumping is a tech race as usual.

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.

    • That's so they can play in both venues in Canada.  Will mean that the UEFA Path A winner has to go from Toronto to Los Angeles and then up to Seattle.   Someone was bound to draw the short straw in that group since 4 of the matches are Central, but 2 are in Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, that's Algeria.
