Kjeld Nuis (speed skating) and Suzanne Schulting (shorttrack) won the sportsman and sportswoman of the year awards in the Netherlands, the coach of the year award ended up in a tie between Jac Orie (speed skating) and Raemon Sluiter (the coach of non-nominated tennis player Kiki Bertens).

Now I'm curious what's so funny about it

I love how so called sports fans in the Netherlands are like "omg it's always a speed skater and speed skating is just Dutch folklore, boohoo!!" when in fact Nuis is the first speed skater in 8 years to get the sportsman of the year award

Are they the same "sports fans" who compared polo to Dutch "porkball" (or something like that)?

I believe they did not compare an established World Games sport with an über-elite sport, no
