Israel will vote to annex 30% of the West Bank on Sunday.

This comes after the announcement of Trump’s peace plan. His plan would see Israel get all of Jerusalem (so it’s already going to have issues right there), and that part of the West Bank that they’ll vote to annex. Palestine would get the rest of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and then some parts of Israel to connect the two (which will also never happen).

Of course this also comes after three consecutive Israeli elections (and before a scheduled fourth). The left may be strong enough to prevent this, but I doubt it.

Netanyahu is has also been officially charged with bribery, money laundering, etc.

“Exciting” times in Israeli politics.

There were only 2 elections, the 3rd one is in march. Also it seems like a plan that actually the israeli left will agree to and not the right.

I thought there was already 3, but Israeli politics have been a bit all over the place lately.

Why do you think the right will vote against. I thought Netanyahu would be for this.

Netanyahu is. but the right is more radical then him.   They dont want a Palestinian country (though Palestinians already rejected this proposal)

Also, major drama in the US Senate trial. It looks like the GOP is facing a major upset, as the trial may have to feature witnesses. The vote on wether or not to have witnesses in the trial could end up 50-50, with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court deciding the vote.

This could be a somewhat major sign of trouble for Trump. However, no one seems to be sure what will happen in that vote.

Well McConell indicated that for now there are more then 4 that are going for witnesses. It's really not going to change the outcome there will never be 67. The one thing that it will change is that it will prolong the circus for much longer, and at the same time the 4 presidential candidates will just sit in the senate and won't be able to be in the big states especially super Tuesday coming in a month. And i don't even want to speak about yesterday's Alan Dershowitz testimony

Cambridge published some data showing how democracy is losing fans all over the world.

Unsurprisingly democracy is most popular in the wealthiest countries in the world like Norway, Switzerland, Denmark & Netherlands (all in Top 11 of GDP per capita).

It has to do with how Constitutions are written. If people don’t believe their votes count, they why should they choose democracy. Democracy also fails the minority a lot of the time, which makes it easier to overturn. It also takes educated votes to keep democracy alive. We have to make sure we don’t elect people like Trump and Bolsonaro, who don’t respect democracy. The rise of populism is taking its toll to as well.

To win any election you need money though. Most of the monarchies in the world have been either overthrown or serve as ceremonial puppets anyway. Most political parties have learned how to dominate the system, USA has seen zero options beyond Dems and GOP for what, 160 years? Senate and Congress don't have even ONE member from outside of these two parties since how long? Politicians have truly learned how to use democracy into their own favor hence we have all these political families and all that nonsense. There is no real choice in most democracies anyway. You vote for the same two parties over and over again. The communists regimes have had one ruling party, the oh-so ideal democracy has two in most cases. That is some upgrade indeed  Call me again if Libertarian Party votes just one member of the Congress! I suspect that won't happen in the next 50 years and beyond :coffee:

    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
