There isn't lol. Bach probably thought it makes it more urban to halve the race distance.

Actually I do like that there are sprints here, I find the 200m awesome to watch as well as an explosion of power. But 1000m, come on, it's not even four minutes  

 

Maybe World Athletics can remove the 1500m and replace it with a 1000m.

ICF is doing what they need to in the eyes of the IOC in order to keep their sport in the Olympics. There’s always been a debate about wether or not they’ve fought hard enough for athletes/fans wishes.
