Also interesting progression by the greek guy in single sculls ... from being completely irrelevant all of his career to olympic gold in such a short time.

I'm sorry but I think you are quite misinformed. He has been improving year by year. Won his first medal at the 2015 World U23s as a junior, then in 2016 got 6th in Rio in LM4- as a 19 year old.

He won several medals at the World and European U23 Championships post-Rio but in different boats because his partners kept quitting the sport despite their success. So after the 2019 European Championships he decided to switch to the single scull and not deal with unreliable partners. In his first event he won silver at the World U23 Championships, then 11 at the World Championships which was not enough to qualify for Rio (in my opinion the competition was stronger there than it was in Rio).

Then last year he got 5th at the European Championships and 4th this year (he just missed a medal in the last 10-20 m and he was obviously tired because he has the European Olympic Qualifying regatta a few days before). Beat Zeidler by 14 seconds in earlier this year in a heat (I think it was the European Championships or maybe the World Cup event). It was pretty clear that he improved a lot in the past few years both as he got older and stronger (and switched from lightweight category) and as he spent more time working on the single sculls since he was still new to it in 2019.

So I would not say he was "completely irrelevant all of his career" when he was clearly a talented young rower. How many teenagers have made A Finals in recent Olympics besides the three Greeks who did it in Rio LM4- and W2X?

    • sure! in every Italian bedroom you normally have every kind of table, chairs, furniture, tv screen  to me, this really look an unfinished room, you normally don't see such a sad place even when you buy a new house
    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
