the new Karate season has started!

the great news about it it's the fact that from now we're in the Olympic Qualification period, when the top tournaments in the World (Premier League, Serie A, Continental Champs and, of course, World Champs) give up points for the new World Ranking, which, at the end of the process, is going to determine most of the 10 qualified athletes in each Olympic category to Tokyo 2020...

because yes!, Karate will make its first Olympic appearance in 2 years time...

and just a few minutes ago, the first stage of the 2018 Karate 1 Premier League has finished in Paris (FRA)...

and the most prestigious tournament of them all has finished with non-news, meaning that more or less all the medals went to the usual suspects...

Japan, in fact, dominated the field with 5 Gold Medals (3 in Kata events, 2 in Kumite events...3 of those 5 coming in Olympic classes), well clear of the local heroes from France, who got 3 full triumphs (all in Kumite events, 2 of them in Olympic classes)...

Iran was the 3rd strenght this week with 2 Gold Medals (both in Kumite events, 1 in an Olympic class)...

Finally Malaysia, China, Kazakhstan and Spain got 1 Gold Medal each (the first 3 in Kumite events, ESP in Kata), with CHN and MAS success coming in Olympic categories...

here are the full Final Results fro the Paris tournament:

just a personal (sad) thought...

Karate refs suck!!! and they suck a lot!!!:wall:

imho, now that Karate has become an Olympic sport, we're gonna see more and more episodes of bad refereeing, corruption, "political" decisions and awful things like that...

and this because there are so few Olympic quota up for grabs and for the various federations is vital to earn at least some of them for this fisrt Olympic party for Karate...

my preview is that we're gonna see even more scandals than in the early days of Olympic Taekwondo...and I said it all...:facepalm::wall:

really Sad for our player Giana Farouk who was dominating -61 weight category almost in all age categories she won the gold in wchs , but last year she didn't participate in any competition , so i guess it's not a big surprise for her to lose in R16 , Ahmed el Masry in men's -84 , this guy is really amazing and since i watched him in wch -21 i realized that we really have a big champion and it didn't take much to prove this in senior level , he lost by shidos only in his final game against Iranian Player after winning in a big Margin in previous games , overall this's not the competition i wanted from the Egyptian team , cuz i believe we have much more better results to deliver

Karate1 Premier League, Stage #2 (Dubai, UAE)

overall, Turkey dominated this K1PL stage with 4 Gold medals...

Spain and France each got 2 and Italy, China, Japan, Azerbaijan, Egypt and a not better identified WKF team took 1 Gold medal each...

counting the Olympic events only, Spain unbelievably topped the ranking by taking both Kata events (and that was really a big surprise since also some of the best Japanese athletes were there)...

meanwhile the 6 Kata events went to 6 different Countries: Italy, Japan, China (women), France, Azerbaijan and Turkey (men)...

here you can find all the results of this Dubai K1PL stage:

in the last weekend, the Karate-1 Serie A tournament in Salzburg (AUT) was on stage

Japan as usual got the most of the honors out of it, with 3 Gold medals...

Croatia and Egypt followed the Asians in the final medal table with 2 Gold medals each...

meanwhile France, Germany, Kosovo, Ukraine and Uzbekistan got 1 Gold medal each...

Japan (men) and Hong Kong (women) also won 2 additional Gold medals in the Team Kata events, which to me are senseless, because of the very modest participation (in terms of both the number and the quality of the teams involved)...

considering the Olympic categories only, instead, Japan got both Individual Kata top placings...

the Kumite Gold medals went to CRO (winning both -50 & -55kg classes), FRA (-61kg) and EGY (winning both -68 and +68kg classes) among the girls and UZB+JPN (-60 & -67kg), GER (-75kg) and UKR+KOS (-84 & +84kg) among the boys...

full results of this tournament can be found here:

Karate1 Premier League, Stage #3 (Rotterdam, NED)

overall, Japan got back on top of the operations with 4 Gold medals...

they were followed closely by Turkey, who won 3 Gold medals...

Germany came out as the 3rd best force with a couple of Gold medals, meanwhile France, Spain and Chinese Taipei completed the "serious" stuff by winning 1 Gold medal each one...

Italy (men) and Spain (women) also got some satisfaction in the senseless team Kata competitions...

looking at the Olympic classes, the 2 Kata events this time were spread between Japan (men) and Spain (women)...

in the Kumite disciplines, instead, JPN & TPE shared the honors in the lower female division (by winning respectively the -50kg & -55kg), with FRA taking the -61kg and GER & JPN sharing the heavier class (by winning respectively the -68kg and +68kg)...

on the men's side, TUR won the lower weight division (they took both -60kg and -67kg classes), with JPN topping the middle weights (-75kg) and TUR, once again, & GER sharing the heavy & super-heavyweights (-84kg and +84kg respectively)...

Karate1 Premier League, Stage #4 (Rabat, MAR)

first, we have to say that many of the usual main contenders were't there...

but, since it's always the absents' fault, we have to honor those who were in Rabat...

overall, Egypt and France were the only Nations to get multiple Gold medals (2 each), if we don't count the Moroccan double in the senseless Team Kata events...

all the remaining Gold medals, in fact, were spread between a bunch of Nations with just a single Gold each one (HKG, TUR, JPN, BRA, DEN, FIN, UZB and AZE)...

looking at the Olympic classes, the 2 Kata events have been won by Turkey (men) and Hong Kong (women)...

in the Kumite disciplines, instead, JPN & BRA shared the honors in the lower female division (by winning respectively the -50kg & -55kg), with FRA taking once again the -61kg and DEN & FIN sharing the heavier class (by winning respectively the -68kg and +68kg)...

on the men's side, UZB & EGY shared the lower weight division (they took the -60kg and -67kg classes, respectively), with the geat Rafael Aghayev of AZE topping the middle weights (-75kg) and EGY, once again, & FRA sharing the heavy & super-heavyweights (-84kg and +84kg, respectively)...

    • Wow, Norway really wants nq after couple of horrible selections in recent years.    For some reason all love Serbia's song, but to me it's borderline (we've seen all the hype from Luke Black, and his final result).    Finland made the only right decision,    Italy - WTF? Like this song is fucking outdated. I don't mind when it's nostalgic, but this is just horrible song for Eurovision. How could you not send Ditonellapiaga who by far destroyed everyone with the staging?    Bulgaria - messy as hell, I expected more from Dara since I knew her beforehand. There are some catchy parts, but they did not sound cogesive at all.    Germany - great job, although public vote didn't like neither those songs neither Germany.
