Not after this loss. I wonder what's WCF's logic behind this. Losing a direct Olympic qualification game is not enjoyable, so 3rd teams are always in advantage over the 1st-2nd loser.

The Czechs will be nervous too though. They didn't want Denmark at all. And they have the demons of 2013 in their minds no doubt.

Yessss!!!! :bounce:

Italy's men are going to Korea!!! first qualification ever for our Curling sport...

but what a painful last ends they were...Gonin is just unable, Mosaner is completely crazy and lucky...but, despite not deserving it at all, at the end we have been gifted this historical win...

now let's hope that Gaspari is in a better state of mind than yesterday evening and the girls can earn their Olympic ticket, too...

That's curling sometimes. You can win by being better than your opponent or you can win because your opponent made a costly mistake at the wrong time.

Congrats to :ITA and :DEN . It's really good for the quality of the competition that Denmark qualified, they are a legitimate medal contender. As for Italy, nice to see them back after so many years but it's definitively a surprise that they qualified.

I feel very bad for :CZE and Snitil, though. Second Olympics in a row where he loses his Olympic qualification playoff...

Kevin Koe, Marc Kennedy, Brent Laing, Ben Hebert and (presumably) Scott Pfeifer will represent Canada in men's curling at the 2018 Olympics.

Olympic Winter Games 2018 teams’ curling schedule published

The PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee Olympic Winter Games recently published the women’s and men’s curling teams' schedule for the upcoming Games in February 2018.

The women’s and men’s teams’ competition will run from Wednesday 14 February until Sunday 25 February and comes after the newly introduced mixed doubles tournament, which begins on 8 February

Ten teams will compete in the women’s and men’s events. They are:

Women: Canada, China, Denmark, Great Britain, Japan, Korea, Olympic Athletes from Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and United States

Men: Canada, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and United States

The tournament format will be a round-robin – three draws per day – followed by a session of tie-breakers if required, then semi-finals and finals. The round-robin will be played between 14 and 21 February. The tie-breakers will follow at 09:05 on Thursday 22 February. Also, that day will be the men’s semi-finals at 20:04.

On Friday 23 February, the men’s bronze medal game is at 15:35 and the women’s semi-finals are at 20:04. Saturday 24 February sees the men’s gold medal game take place at 15:35, followed by the women’s bronze medal game at 20:04.

The Olympic curling concludes on Sunday 25 February at 09:05 with the women’s gold medal final. This is the first time the women’s final has come last at the Games, since its debut in Nagano, Japan, in 1998.

At the end of the round-robin the teams will be ranked one to ten, with the first ranked team playing the fourth ranked team (1v4) and the second ranked team playing the third ranked team in the semi-finals (2v3).

The men’s defending champion nation, Canada will open their round-robin campaign in the first session of play on Wednesday 14 February against Italy, who recently qualified out of the Olympic Qualification Event in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

Also, in that session, the hosts Korea will meet United States.

Canada’s women’s team – again the defending champion nation and the current world champions – open their campaign at 09:05 on Thursday 15 February against the hosts Korea.

This Kevin Koe team is stupidly stacked, on paper it's debatable whether it's the best or second best team Canada has ever sent to the Olympics (the other in contention being Kevin Martin's 2010 team that went 11-0). Obviously they aren't the only strong team (Edin and Ulsrud especially have very strong teams) but if they play to their potential they should win.

This Skip-Lead-First-Second table is not completely correct, as Skip doesn't need to be the Fourth.

Italian Skip is Third, while their "Third" is Fourth. :d

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
