I'm watching yesterday's sprints now, but I still just don't get the point 

 

Why was this ever added? What's the 'extra' of it? It's exactly the same, but shorter. Why? It's not even really a sprint when it's a 'flying start', but the start is of course still just as important to build speed. After all this time I still don't get it.

The point is to try to add three new events at the Olympics xD

Luge just wants to get in on having multiple (almost) same events at the Olympics, like a lot of other winter sports already do (ski jumping, snowboarding, nordic combined...).

Just read something about the Women´s Doubles event to be introduced and contested in Beijing 2022. Apparently the FIL vicepresident Harald Steyer confirmed that yesterday to DPA agency . https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/308412/na-zoh-2022-v-pekingu-prvykrat-aj-zenske-dvojsedadlove-sane/

I imagine they want both women's doubles and women's sprint doubles. Because why not?

At least natural luge is something rather different, but all those sprint things...and the basically non-existing women's doubles...dear lord
