Equestrian at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

First big scores are starting to pile but I don't think we will get the expected shake up among top nations from this course.

Time isn't tight, not super technical, the ride seems pretty straight forward with the right options.

It only needs one or two of the likely medal contenders to suffer an elimination for their hopes to be over and it all to be shock up.

Is Sweden out of the medal race?

Sadly yes for the team medal. Louise Romeike is still in a good position individually.

Just like in basically any other Olympic sport... A baton down means a baton down.

Given they already used their substitution I don't even think they can compete in the jumping phase as a team?

They can. Viklund will be allowed to start tomorrow for the team section only.

Looking at this competition I wonder how modern pentathlon would change if they would go back to having cross country instead of show jumping, like in the old days. This definitely makes more sense as the event type for pentathlon based on what the sport is intended to be, but they are moving in the other (wrong) direction with the current changes.

It be even more crazier than it already is.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
