Alpine Skiing FIS World Cup 2017 - 2018

Recommended Posts

Wow, now I see that Zubčić finished 33rd. Much improved in slalom comparing to the last season, but again and AGAIN so close (only 0.08 off...).

  • 2 weeks later...

The two first training runs cancelled in Lake Louise

Usually, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup races in Lake Louise are marked by very cold temperatures and sunny skies. 2017 is different. Both official training runs scheduled on 22nd and 23rd November had to be cancelled due to wet and soft weather conditions.

The course crew of the Lake Louise World Cup, the legendary Sled Dogs and Net Monkeys, worked hard and succeeded to prepare a downhill track in great conditions. But during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, an important quantity of snowfall softened up the course and made a speed training impossible on Wednesday. The racers still got to have a feeling of the track, as the warm-up took place on a section of the race course and the inspection from top to bottom maintained.

As per today, in addition to the warm temperatures, the rain started falling during the night, rising the degree of humidity even higher.

With approximately +6°C to be expected today, it would have been hard to assure a safe training run. Early this morning, the jury decided to cancel the training, also in order to preserve the track for tomorrow’s last chance for an official downhill training.

The two first speed races of the season, a downhill and a super-g, are set to take place respectively on Saturday 25th November (12h15 LOC, 20h15 CET) and on Sunday 26th November (12h00 LOC, 20h00 CET)

Finally a completed training before tomorrows Lake Louise downhill. Won by Adrien Theaux Results  :yes If the guy could repeat it also tomorrow. That would be awesome after all the bad that happened last week to the French team around the Poisson tragedy

2nd run for :NED Jelinkova :yikes:

Meanwhile, Popović didn't came anywhere near the form that she showed in Colorado 5 days ago. Why do I even bother about Croatian skiing anymore?

Duuuude don't jinx it :d

Plenty of girls to come

Pretty sure it's the curse of Croatian skiers to always finish 31st/32nd, and not the curse of these tri-colors. :NED:LUX:CRO:p

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
    • Well that was a disappointing opening ceremony. Not to mention the boss is late too...   Anyway this is another victim of bureaucracy, the initial creative director quit in October and we get this kind of show.   Original plan: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17EVayTpig/
    • Japan missed their last shot with hammer in the 10th last night against the Philippines for them to stay alive.  USA's remaining 2 games are against Philippines and Netherlands, so they have a tough road ahead, although they've already beaten Japan, so that helps for tiebreaker purposes.
    • They have already beaten Japan, so a win would them in a strong place.
