Water Polo Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

France Netherlands is probably a tossup or Netherlands small favourites but other matches i wouldn't be surprised to see one unexpected result out of 3, the difference between those countries isn't like it used to be.

what a strange sys to give NED 2nd place, totally unlogical for me!

Ok, ITA-ROM and HUN-GER are easy picks, then the hit ESP-CAN, ESP seems to be the fav but CAN is really good, the looser will be the biggest looser of whole 4 years...while the winner of NED-FRA the oppossite. Both teams are a surpise, both are a bit "new" to this level (not mentioning the old times), a bit unstable so the shape of the day will decide, i bet on NED and ESP

I fell in love with sports.....since i first seen it

Just for Info, Germany advanced to the quarterfinal over Kazakhstan, not because of their better GD. just because they lost by 6 goals to Italy and Kazakhstan by 11.

just a reminder about weird tie breaking rules in this sport :p

i don`t get it cuz Spain has won with Italy while NED has lost....too complicated, ok, so 3-team table decided 1st place, while direct match the 2nd while results with ITA decided about 4th place??

Oh my....:wall:

lol yeah, I already posted the PDF book about the tie breaking rules earlier in this thread.

first they determine the top team (Italy), then, 2nd and 3rd and since we have a tie for 4th place (they tied each other so no head to head match) then their results against the top team (Italy) determine the 4th place,

thx :), so i guessed it cuz it was the only "logical" explanation, but to be true, i`ve never heard of such strange system, lucky France + Netherlands

But NED won against ESP, so in that case, it's not so weird to be above them :d

So dumb to use different crtieria to determine who finsihes where. The first method that would work (since head to head points would not work) would be head to head goal differential. In that case Italy first, Spain second and Netherlands third.

Hoping France doesn't win as they do not deserve it.

well, usually they use 3 team direct table :D, NED has clearly the worst gf but in some way i`m happy about it, i like surprises, come backs, and because i think NED is better than FRA in those terms i`m rooting NED tomorrow!! :)

    • Vivat Slovakia    But in all seriousness, it's been repeatedly stated how important it is to qualify in a team event for the next Summer Olympics. However, I have no idea if we even have a realistic chance.   We only have one fewer individual athlete competing this year than we did in Paris, so individual quota spots aren't the main issue. Where can we find a competitive team, like we do in hockey? Maybe the women's handball team could start something big, but that's still far in the future, very likely unachievable in just two years.   And to be clear, as horrific as our medal tally from Paris looked, those were some of the unluckiest Olympics for Slovakia I have ever seen. Finishing in the top six seven times (!) is absolutely insane.

    • I really hope Nordic Combined doesn't get scrapped. Actually, I believe the Winter Olympics should keep growing with new sports and disciplines (3x3 Hockey, Ice Cross, Speed Skiing, Ice Climbing), otherwise they won't feel like a true celebration of sports like their summer counterpart.
    • In fact, well, no. Hockey is extremely physically demanding, I even think it is the most physically demanding winter sport of all. I mean keeping more than a minute on ice is just cardiac. The shifts are there for a reason.   25 players rosters are absolutely justified. You must have 4 lines to keep the stamina the whole game.   Hard to persuade people who never watched hockey though, I can understand your point, but sadly, the point is wrong
    • Stats are ok, but the time she losts on the range every time... My point was that she is more likely to make us losing the olympic relay than to make us winning it.
    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
    • But her shooting surely never was horrendous, or even bad for her standards.
