1:55.33, 22nd fastest time in history for Semenya and she barely even tried until 600 meters. She's now officially in faster shape than ever, since this is her PB.

It will be great race in Rio :cheer:

Absolutely! Especially now that there are two who can somewhat, possibly, maybe challenge Semenya, but seeing a 1:52-something would be interesting anyway :d

Some thoughts:

1) Where did the following athletes come from this year?

Khaladovich, Ghazal (+ Taplin and Papachristou)

Especially Khaladovich is just embarrassing. I guess political leaders in Belarus realized that Arzamasova (where is she anyway?) wont win a medal in Rio, so they decided to try their luck in womens javelin throw. I pray to god that she wont steal a medal in Rio.

2) Womens 800m will be the most boring event in Rio with those 3 guys running far ahead of everyone else, come on, they dont even wear the same shorts as the other athletes, why?

3) Adams seems to be back, it will be very tight between her, Schwanitz and Gong in Rio.

4) Stefanidi is currently in a great shape, i think she will battle for gold with Silva and Suhr. I hope that the russian girls wont be allowed to compete in Rio. If you allow Isinbaeva to compete, then you could as well allow all russians to compete, considering that Isinbaeva is something like the press spokeswoman of the russian officials.

I am absolutely not surprised that McCartney was far off her best outside of some small competitions in her home country.

5) Tamberi looks fantastic at the moment, i think he will win at least a medal and the other medals will go to Kynard and Bondarenko.

6) Kiprop will need to work very hard if he wants to win that olympic gold this time. I think 3 african runners will still win the medals in Rio, only Centrowitz might challenge them.

7) Bartoletta was surprisingly slow, will she be able to get in top shape until Rio? I dont think that the US will win a medal in this event in Rio.

8) I have only one wish for all athletics events in Rio: Rojas has to win the gold! She and Ibarguen are clearly superior to everyone else, the fight for bronze could be pretty open. I pray to god that Spain wont naturalize her like they always do.

The secret in high/triple jump seems to be that you have to be fast, skinny and big. Jamaica came out of nowhere in many events, suddenly they have medal contenders in mens shot put, mens long jump, womens triple jump and maybe also mens discus throw.

9) I feel really sad for Cuba that they lost Ortega, Spain did absolutely nothing for his development and i hope that they wont get away with this shit in the future. Everyone who changes nationality should be banned for at least 2 years, then countries like Turkey might think twice before naturalizing athletes.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • @hckošice Do you agree with me to some extent, or am I hopelessly dreaming?
    • Interesting forecasts, I like 'em! I think the US wins the most medals, but Norway tops the standings (most golds)... have Germany neck-and-neck with Norway for medals, but fewer gold.    Then have Canada and Italy fighting it out for 4th in 5th   Then have Sweden, Austrian, Japan, Netherlands and France rounding out the top ten, with them all within a medal or two of each other. Of course reality with differ significantly
    • A huge day for the very young Italian Bertini: despite a very tough draw, he beats Szilagy in the round of 16 and Gu in the quarterfinals! First career podium for him!
    • Time for more personal and detailed predictions:    will have it hard this time.   I'm trying to stay realistic about our chances. We're not going there as favorites in most events, and deep down I know it would be a big surprise if we suddenly overperformed or even dominated. Still, sports have a beautiful way of ignoring expectations.   We're never predicted to do amazingly well at either edition of the Olympics, so I’m desperately hoping for moments that will stay with everyone in the country for years, whether it's a final that keeps people glued to their screens or a performance that will make us proud. Just one medal could mean so much. It would bring real emotions and something to cheer for to a country that isn’t going through its best period right now. And on the rare occasion of a hockey miracle, celebrations in the streets wouldn't be an oddity.   It all comes down to four sports, the rest are out of reach:   Alpine Skiing is a big mystery, and it will all come down to Petra, whether she'll compete and eventually shock everyone with a heroic result. That's the best-case scenario. Biathlon can be the dark horse, you never know how things turn around. The women's relay is probably our biggest chance, but all four of them need to deliver great performances. As for Ice Hockey, our national sport, I'll always believe in another fairytale. I'll always believe we'll pull off a miracle. Since I wasn't alive yet when we won gold at the World Championships, I can only resort to watching old videos and imagine how amazing it must have been to watch as your country is the champion of the world in something. Best on the planet. Even the silver years later was amazing, but I was too young to actually remember it, so it's time for another hockey euphoria in the country. Ski Mountaineering is a bit overlooked in the media right now, but I believe we have a huge chance of winning a medal in one of the events. Our athletes aren't minnows.   We're a small country, still relatively young. There's not much we're known for in the world, but sports are a perfect way to build a national identity, to stop people from thinking you're still part of a state that ceased to exist decades ago. Doing well in sports is one of the few things these lesser-known countries can show off, not just the ones in Europe.   I'm desperately hoping for a medal, and we all want those two weeks of the Olympics to be amazing and full of unforgettable moments.
    • Never wanted a prediction to be more right
    • Two weeks before the Games officially begin, time to give my final predictions on the medal standings.     will beat  and win the medal table at the WOG for the first time in 100 years. All the (absurd) retirements of elite Norge athletes last season will have its consequences and they will drop to second.    will my bold pick to return to the top 3 after their horrendous Beijing performance, when it comes to Gold medals.     Germany will slip down and will have less than 9 golds for the first time in 50 years. Depending on how the chips fall in some sports, they could even be outside the top 5.   Home team of  will have their best Olympics in some, better than Torino, but it still won't be enough to get into the top 5.
