My expectations were on point, just that Dumoulin should have made a minute less. :d Quintana and Nibali are going to have a big problem with him. He has a 2.20 and 2.50 ahead of them, plus another 2 minutes comming in the last TT, that's 5-6-7 minutes needed in the mountains. Of course with the third week being so tough, it is very likely he would have a bad day, but would it be such a bad day. Plus the others aren't immune to one too, especially Nibali, who still isn't looking promising. He gained good on Quintana, but the colombian was exceptionally bad, ideally Nibali should have been 1.30-1.40 behind Dumoulin.

The other thing is that without the crash, Thomas would have been 30s to a minute from Dumoulin and in prime position for the win. He is in great shape and would have been the last one to stick with Quintana on Blockhaus. Sky should be kicking themselves.

Pelucchi already 13 minutes behind :lol:

No idea what that guy is doing in the pro peloton.

Apparently he finished over time limit today. Didn't know that was possible in ITT. :yikes:

Yep, in the Tour it's always 25%, I guess here it's the same :p

I still think Quintana is the main favourite by the way. Mollema thinks otherwise, saying Dumoulin is the main favourite now. At least it's always good to see a pure climber having to make up a whole bunch of time, usually that means one thing: attacks :cheer:

:lol::(

'Dumoulin has over two minutes of advantage on Quintana in the Giro, so it basically can't go wrong anymore right?'

1. Steven Kruijswijk dominating the Giro d'Italia last year until, with no way anyone was going to beat him, he decided to take a dive in the snow.

2. Tom Dumoulin in the 19th stage of last year's Tour de France, going down thanks to Teklehamianot, resulting in an injury and huge doubts about his Olympic preparations (resulting in the somewhat disappointing silver instead of gold in Rio).

3. Bauke Mollema in the very same, horrific 19th stage of last year's Tour de France, being two stages away from a historic Dutch podium (he was in a strong 2nd place) before falling and dropping out of the top-10.

4. Annemiek van Vleuten on her way to Olympic gold and glory in Rio, before having her horrible fall of which she luckily recovered very well (and came back stronger than ever).

Dutch cyclists are the masters of choking :bowdown:

Spoiler

Such a good stage today, it's going to be fun from the beginning. :) The shark to do some crazy downhill riding, like in the good old days, as to get a few second back. :pope:  If that happens, i wonder who would try and chase him, or if the rest are going to be playing it safe.

good pedaling from tratnik and polanc,

Although Tratnik did get a 5 second time penalty because he profited hugely from Kiriyenka :d (nonetheless it was a really good performance, Tratnik has been showing himself well all year long so far!)

I'm expecting the likes of Fraile to go and attack and, if Nibali allows it (which is hard to say but I doubt it), Visconti seems like a very good candidate as well. And of course Rui Costa, in the region in which he so gloriously won his world title against the Spaniards :bowdown:

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
