But GBR has two ice hockey teams, something we of course can't expect from a small Central European country without any sort of an ice hockey tradition

GBR has 1113 registred female ice hockey players, we have 743

GBR has 60 million inhabitants, Slovakia has 5.

So they will really need to have around 9000 registered players to be on par with SVK. :p

yay.. but still from 1113 female players is still easier to form a let say competitive "hobby" students team than from 743  :old:

Just heard Bruna (Moura) will be Brazil's only participant in Almaty, meaning she'll carry the Brazilian flag at the opening ceremony and I'm already as proud as can be just by the thought of it :cry::clap:

Three days and three hours until the opening ceremony and not even a sign of any athletes' profiles or any sort of somewhat detailed information on the official website...this is getting rather shameful...

Last Winter Universiade we had 7 athletes....not very much a coincidence that that was the Universiade with no speed skating :p

Now we have 7 in other sports and 13 in speed skating :d

Like usual though, we're not exactly strong in university sports, even in speed skating. Even from watching national championships on TV, I only know Bart Vreugdenhil, who was 18th at the Dutch Allround Championships last weekend (and that's without at least 2-3 skaters who would easily have been ahead of that). Gerritsen was 17th there. Van Oosten was 7th in the Dutch Sprint Championships last weekend where most top athletes were participating, so he might be able to do something good....although the presence of Roman Krech is making gold nearly impossible and I guess the Polish will have some strong names as well.

Still nothing about athlete's profiles, but at least the well-known results lay-out for multi-events can finally be found on FISU's website:

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
