Armenia is being helped in a tournament that is being held in TURKEY (of all places)?? Well, that would be something for the history books. I think that would mean the end of the World. ;)

It's a bit silly to say that some matches were robberies based on results only. An Armenian user could also say: "Cappai won even though he was not a favourite, that's a robbery!". :p

yes, Armenia are being heavily helped...and that's a fact...

as I wrote, I only have suspicion - and nothing else, since AIBA doesn't give us any chance to see this tournament...maybe just because they don't want too many people watching their "Italian jobs" - about those 2 bouts, but not based only on the results, but on what very experienced and trustable coaches and officials write and on the fact that I know quite well the history and the "quality" of those 2 fighters (and, trust me, they are already well beyond their normal capabilities)...

the same for the 2-1 only win by Mangiacapre against the Bosnian guy...for sure something strange happened on the jury table, because under normal circumstances Mangiacapre would destroy Fetahovic even with no hands and his eyes closed...

Cappai's victory was surprising for sure, but if it had been undeserved our Federation's website would have written something about it...they are always really "fair" and pay a lot of attention to not write "heavy" criticism about the refereeing and judging (the most they write is "lucky win" when our boxers steal the verdict and "match full of regrets" when our guys get robbed big time)...

if Armenians are winning in Turkey...believe me...they had to deserve it

not at all...don't forget that it's not the Turkish people nor politicians judging the bouts...

the aiba mafia has different paths and plots, not necessarily always on the same page of the general feeling of the host Country (the only almost untouchable principle they follow is "don't penalize - to be read: "let them win despite anything happens on the ring" - the home boys")...

Fowler and Okolie have both won as well (okolie even managed to beat a Turkish boxer in Turkey!!)

So GB have 9 athletes 1 win away from Rio!! A fantastic result for GB if all can qualify

If anything, Italy is in a much better position to "bribe" judges than Armenia. No point in claiming that AIBA mafia is targetting Italy with Armenians and Fetahović...

this sport no longer deserves to be at Olympics

If the main talk of an OQT is about corruption, undeserved wins and horrible judges then yes, you are absolutely correct. Kick it out, clean up the mess and see you in 2028 or something.

SVK updates..

our last boxer in this tournament is out. as expected Matúš Strnisko lost to the ex-world champion Khyzhniak of Ukraine in -81kg quarter finals...

but still amazing that he manage to win 2 matches here.

once again what a pity for the Viliam Tankó injury, I´m so sad about that..but well, what can we do, it´s not the end of the world, the sun will rise again tomorrow

Judging by the weather of the past couple of hours, I really doubt that.

I just hope Müllenberg will punch the Turkish guy to smithereens so there won't even be points involved. Because probably one KO would not even be enough to convince the judges to go against the Turk.

Yay, two Lithuanians in semifinals. Jopefully both makes it. Both deserve it as E.Petrauskas was bronze medalist in 2012 London and E.Stanionis is 2015 European champion.

    • One of my favorite songs from the early 2000s that I listened to on a cassette on my walkman
    • For me 20 medals will be good. And if more there are? Super. However, I prefer not to get my hopes up too much, so as not to be disappointed later.
    • If you're still taking suggestions, I tought the following:   Team Madison format.   17 teams of 2 "riders", randomly drawn. Teams can be named for famous "endurance" track cyclists. 4 intermediate "sprints", one after a voting block, in which the top 8 teams will score according to this formula: (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1). The order in which team score for a sprint are determined by the total number of "medals" won by both members of the team during the block. Ranking will be sorted according to the number of gold medals, then silver, then bronze. If there's two or more teams with same number of points, the medals of best individual performer of each team will be considered to break the tie. If the tie remains, then team's total points during the block will be used to break it. If the team fails to receive a single medal during each block, it will be considered to "lose lap" and 20 points will be substracted from their score. If the team fails to score at least 1 point during each block, it will be an automatic DNF for the team. If both members of the team get a medal from a single jury, it will be considered to "gain lap" and 20 points will be added to their score. A team can only win an additional lap per voting block. After the 4 intermediate, a "final" sprint will be recorded, in which points will be doubled (20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 & 2). Ranking for the final sprint will take into account the total medals won during the event.   What do you think?
    • I don't medal pick, per se... I assign probabilities/expected-values and total them up. So I don't have a gold medal estimate... but if you want one, divide those numbers by three and you'll be pretty close!   I imagine Norway, Italy and Netherlands and maybe Canada will probably skew a bit higher on golds, and US, Germany, and Sweden will skew a little lower... so maybe: Norway - 14 US - 11 Germany - 11 Italy - 11 Canada - 10 Austria - 8 Netherlands - 8 Japan - 7 Sweden - 6 France.- 6   I was surprised seeing Italy come in that high, I was figuring 22-23, but I guess they've been do well on the World Cups.
    • If you were to predict top- 10 for the number of gold medals, what would it look like?     For me, as an Italian, any result for Italy: +20 medals would be OK (if that will include 6-7 gold medals). The trauma of Turin 2006 is too great
    • Doesn't really help that two of the strongest countries in that particular sport are banned from the team event for well known reasons.
    • Just another reason why it's super dumb that the NOC max in freestyle skiing isn't 40.
    • In rugby there's More Squidge Rugby (the main channel has proper videos).
