Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 News Road to LA 2028

Must be cool though, if you're from India: basically your country is the one and only reason for an entire sport being in the Olympics, even though it is entirely obvious that it is only for the money (if it was for the sport itself, there would obviously not be a tiny 6-team tournament) :d

India might be the big prize, but the IOC is quite interested in expanding across South Asia. When that region has 3/10 most populous nations and relatively low interest you should want to make an effort to bring in more people/money.

Perhaps in a couple decades we'll see Pencak Silat or Dambe become an Olympic sport to bring in the :INA or :NGR market respectively.

I mean, there are plenty of Olympic sports and events that cater very specifically to North America, East Asia and (especially) Europe, I don't think it's a bad thing to have one sport that caters to the Indian subcontinent. Especially since that's more people than North America and Europe combined.

Also, IMO on the merrits cricket is definitively worthy of Olympic inclusion.

As mentioned before, there's enough nations which play cricket for it to be Olympic viable. The challenge, like baseball/softball is the venue size.

I'm still going to keep my eternal hopes for kabaddi :p

I highly doubt I'm going to be really aware of cricket's existence in LA, other than a quick glance at the results, but kabaddi...oh boy, that'd be on the list of high priority sports in my viewing schedule :d

  • 2 weeks later...

After Zika, Covid and bed bugs we have found the new reason because of which Olympics are going to be cancelled. Brace for 3.5 years of updates on how Trump's X policy or Y statement will result in cancellation of LA Games.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
