"The IOC is also encouraging the inclusion of mixed-gender team events"

THIS!

"Again, we must emphasize that this decision is under the full authority of the IOC; it is not the ISSF that is making this decision."

Translation: Don't look at us, direct all the nasty tweets to IOC.

RIP double trap, the event that made trap look like a mere easyvideo game :(

The recomendations are now official.

http://www.issf-sports.org/news.ashx?newsid=2731

I am personally not against cutting trap, but very much against the decisions on pistol and rifle events.

I would prefer what the Danish shooting Union prefered.

http://skytteunion.dk/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/ISSF_program_proposal_Tokyo2020.pdf

In short it was:

Cut double trap, and give more quotas for the other shotgun events.

Make 50m rifle prone mixed gender

Cut 25m rapid fire pistol and make a mixed gender 25m standard piston (though I like the rapid fire pistol, it's the smallest of the pistol events)

well for Serbia this is good news, but Im not happy. Mixed events are not for Olympics.

same here. not happy with it, but well, only very rarely the things works for us (look the C2 Canoe slalom removal proposals) so at least once they invented something favorable also for us :d  unbelievable medal chance with Zuzana and Erik :d

So which events will we have in Tokyo if this all works out?

As a german fan i dont care about double trap or 50 m pistol being cut (we never won medals in those disciplines anyway) :d ... but i think Germany has always been good in 10 m rifle, so this is not a dream scenario either.

Mixed events are complete nonsense in my opinion. Either the sport is developed enough on the womens side, so that women should have their own team events or the sport isnt developed enough on the womens side, which would mean that there are only very few nations that are competitive in a mixed team event.

In my opinion the perfect olympic schedule would look like this:

Summer:

Diving: 3/10 m individual/synchronized (8 events)

Swimming: 100/200 m free/breast/back/fly + 400/800 m free + 200/400 m IM + 4 x 100/200 free relay + Medley relay + 5 km open water (32 events)

Water polo/Basketball/Field hockey/Football/Handball/Rugby/(Beach) Volleyball: Mens/womens team (14 events)

Archery: Mens/womens individual/team (4 events)

Athletics: 100/200/400/800/1500/5000 m + 100/400 m hurdles + 3000 m SC + Marathon + 20 km race walking + High/Long/Triple jump + Pole vault + Decathlon/Heptathlon + Javelin throw + Shot put + Hammer throw + Discus throw + 4 x 100/400 m relay (44 events)

Boxing: Not more than 6 weight categories on the mens side (for example -52 kg, -60 kg, -69 kg, -80 kg, -91 kg, +91 kg) and not more than 4 weight categories on the womens side (-50 kg, -58 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg) (10 events)

Canoeing slalom: Mens/womens C1/K1 (4 events)

Canoeing sprint: Mens/womens k1 200/100 m, mens/womens k2 500 m, mens c1 500 m (7 events)

Artistic gymnastics: Mens/womens individual/team all-around + Mens pommel horse/rings/high bar/horizontal bar + Womens uneven bars/balance beam + Mens/womens vault/floor (14 events)

Judo: 6 weight categories on both sides (12 events)

Taekwondo: 4 weight categories on both sides are fine (8 events)

Wrestling: In my opinion there are clearly too many weight categories in wrestling, i think 15 events would be enough (5 in mens freestyle, 4 in womens freestyle, 3 in mens greco-roman, 3 in womens greco-roman) (15 events)

Rowing: No leightweight categories anymore (why are there leightweight categories in rowing, but not in canoeing?). Mens/womens single/double/quadruple sculls + Mens/womens pair/four/eight (12 events)

Sailing: Mens/womens RS:X/Laser/470/49er (8 events)

Shooting: Mens/womens trap/skeet/10 m air rifle/10 m air pistol/50 m pistol/50 m rifle 3 positions/rapid fire pistol (14 events)

No weightlifting, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, modern pentathlon, baseball, climbing, surfing, skateboard

Winter:

Alpine skiing: Mens/womens slalom/giant slalom/super g/downhill (8 events)

Biathlon: Mens/womens sprint/pursuit/mass start/relay + maybe individual (8-10 events)

Bob: Mens/womens individual/double (4 events)

Cross-country: Mens womens sprint/relay/team sprint + Mens 15 km classic/free + Womens 10 km classic/free (10 events)

Curling/Ice hockey: Mens/womens team (4 events)

Figure skating: Mens/womens individual + Pairs + Ice dancing (4 events)

Skeleton: Mens/womens individual (2 events)

Ski jumping: Mens/womens individual/team (4 events)

Snowboarding: Mens/womens parallel slalom/halfpipe/slopestyle/cross (8 events)

Short track: Mens/womens 500/1500 + maybe a relay (4-6 events)

I agree in everything except:

-I think TKD needs a few more weight categories (too many people are currently fighting above/below their normal weight just to be in the olympics, it's dangerous).

-Also I think in Fencing you meant 12 events and not 6.

-I would axe men's Football and use all that quota for men's and women's Futsal instead, but I guess you won't like it cuz Germany is just starting to play it :d

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
