I'd say the first option The second option might be possible if you're the world number 40 or something, but not if you're Nadal . I think the second opcion is usefull to players like Pablo Carreño or Albert Ramos-Viñolas, who don't reach the minimum either. Well he's not in the top 10 so he has to compete with other combined ranked teams to qualify. Of course Nestor + Pospisil have a combined rank of 33 which means they should easily make it in.
