Speed Skating ISU World Cup 2025 - 2026

33.67 vs 33.78 (Koskhin vs Kim)

Must have been a super nice race. No idea, NOS didn't show it. Oh no, they broadcast the World Cup of course, they just decided to skip the first two races in the men's 500m (skipping the first 1-2 races in a distance is entirely normal for them) to show an interview, and with that miss one of the very best ever races :)

Manganello was an unsympathetic winner, damn

Even going so far as to push Kerkhoff. Manganello is nearly a century old, surely she has heard of basic tactics like not taking turns in a lead group when you have your sprinter team mate behind you in the peloton. Manganello has even been a cyclist, come on, it's not that difficult.

A completely different story in the men's 5000m today from a week ago. 3 skaters went under the track record but not the one's you would've expected. :USA Casey Dawson takes the win with a 6:01.84 track record and recording two 27 splits. :NOR Sander Eitrem with another podium in a new PB of 6:01.86 and 39 year old :CAN Ted-Jan Bloemen finished 3rd with 6:02.26.

Meanwhile, world record holder :FRA Loubineaud finished 4th and :CZE Jilek was down in 7th.

Men's distance racing is crazy right now.

Silver medal for :FRA France in the men's team pursuit

No such thing as pushing, Loubineaud is motoring and Deschamps in the back hanging on for dear life :dre

There is an outside chance of medal in Milano.

Once again a shining example of what a nonsense the mixed relay is, at least in it's current format. Doing it based on times is just nonsense, no top country takes it serious and it's just outright dangerous. But the main issue is this thing with making the ranking based on times, despite the races being done in heats instead of 1 vs 1 races. Hungary profited from that obviously, and that's cool for them :d

    • Not in modern times (believe it has happened back in the 19th century). The Social Democrats were rather close in the mid-30s, but generally it's been the Social Democrats as the largest getting challenged by either Venstre (the old, liberal party) or the Conservatives (though their latest peak was in the 80s). Keep in mind that most Danish governments have been minority governments. The latest government (well, it's still the government until the new one is formed) was the first one since the early 90s and only the 5th since the Second World War.
    • Always, when I go from the high mountains- Moena to Trento at the beginning of March, I could already feel spring - green all around, olive trees etc. A nice contrast.
