the government must take care of the people starving to death and of the public health sysyem collapsing, not lifting taxes to rich people, who already don't pay enough :hairpull:

In Italy, one might add to all this I suppose. A sport being compromised with doping is not a problem, a sport trying to deal with doping is the problem (tennis and especially football for example aren't, but by keeping it quieter, nobody cares, whereas cycling had years of actively hunting dopers and banning them for years).

yeah, probably you're right, but the most common feeling about (road) cycling is that they only fake trying to fight doping, but actually they only put the dirt under the carpet

and this keeps most factories away from linking their name to the sport

there's less risk in investing in sports like volleyball, golf, motorsports or America's Cup sailing, according to the stats (and most people)

Ok, so let them invest in women's volleyball since we have a boom for it, but I don't see it... I see Orro and Sylla going to play in Turkey... In my opinion, this is still an alibi to do nothing about what you write about cycling.

Again, in Italy specifically :p

But yes, the more money goes around in sports, the more likely doping is and the better they are at hidding it or the less the authorities care because the bigger the financial damage would be when it becomes public knowledge, that's true (again, football as the absolute number one example).

c'mon!

they've gone to TUR because nobody can match their money

this doesn't mean that the Italian championship is poor (and it's Italy, there will always be more money in the men's division than in the women's)

ps they will be back home in 1, max 2 years

It's hard to compete with Turkey, because it's practically a dictatorship - Erdogan can order money printing and investing in sports (was inflation there recently 100%?), but the Premier League in football shows that even in a free and democratic country you can pay big money to big stars, just like the NBA and NHL are other examples.

Neither Italy nor Poland will overhaul their healthcare public systems – I've already come to terms with that. It would require many years of work and the consensus of politicians of all options and in these two countries, it's impossible. It's a sad truth.

Hand power over to these people, or people like them, give them at least 10 years of trust and a free hand to act, give them a majority in this ridiculous parliament and then evaluate. This is Italy's only chance.

That was an interesting discussion that had nothing to do with this event, so I'll just say...

What an amazing time trial by Niklas. Bronze medal with that start list is damn impressive!

From a foreign point of view, it does feel a bit weird there is no italian WT team tbh...

I remembrer when Lampre was gone reading some apocalyptic stuff about the certain death of italian cycling. If anything that didn't happen.

The Pro Tour began in 2005 (now called WT)- in that time, we had 4 teams: Lampre, Liquigas, Fassa Bortolo and Domina Vacanze. Now we have nothing and it has been like this for more than 10 years. That's a problem for me. Spain has one: Movistar and we should do it too. I would that we create a combined men's and women's team at WT level.
