Same age group as Hladunova, but I'm afraid that without one strong group at the WT level, we'll be wasting even more talent. We used to have four groups in WT in 2005, and now?

WTF are you saying? he's already under contract with one of the best WT teams (Red Bull Bora)

if you're a true talented rider, there's always a big team that wants you, we don't need WT teams, we need great riders (and who cares if they ride for foreign teams?)

It just so happens that the golden age of Italian cycling in 90ss XX century we have several strong groups in the peloton: Mapei, Saeco, Mercatone Uno, Lampre, later Liquigas etc. Now we have nothing in WT and it's a shame that a country with such a tradition doesn't have a single, serious big sponsor who would invest money in it. Spain they have flagship: Movistar, and we have some small groups in the PCT:hairpull: This ridiculous Italian government, instead of taking selfies with Olympic/World Championship medalists, could finally introduce some tax breaks for sponsors and thus encourage them to invest in our sport, but you need to have a brain instead of shi... like Salvini:lol:

c'mon! cycling, especially road cycling, we all know is compromised with doping, no factory wants to be matched with a sick sport...that's the sad truth

add that the TV ratings are decreasing more and more and those who still watch cycling are in the age group 50+ (who are not the usual target of the sponsorships involved in the sports world) and it's obvious that you can't find anybody throwing away his/her money in a cycling team

France has its groups in the WT, UK has Ineos, Spain has Movistar, etc... Let's stop with this eternal alibi, that Velasco always talks about it:hairpull: Italy should have at least one strong group in the WT, even if only people over 100 years were watching it on TV:lol: Btw., in France the audience in front of the TV is different than our?

it's not about alibi, the stats and the history of the sport just say that in Italy no people want to invest (throw away their money) in a cycling team

you can't force them to do waht they don't want to, just have to accept the bitter/tough/sad reality

and yes, the TdF is the National event par excellence (and this year, thanks to Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, even the TdF Femmes was broadcasted by France Television and had million viewers for the main stages)

Cycling in France is still one of the most beloved sports

The government can encourage companies/sponsor to make such investments, for example, through tax breaks, etc. There are various tools, but you have to have an idea and implement it. The same goes for football, volleyball, etc. It's truly sad that the 18th or 20th-placed team in Premier League team pays higher contracts their players, than the Italian champions:hairpull:And you can do something about it and try to fight agains it, or maybe do nothing and just cry that the situation is bad, etc. We usually choose the second option :(

In Italy, one might add to all this I suppose. A sport being compromised with doping is not a problem, a sport trying to deal with doping is the problem (tennis and especially football for example aren't, but by keeping it quieter, nobody cares, whereas cycling had years of actively hunting dopers and banning them for years).

    • A bit of a mixed session for  GB.   The Women's Team Pursuit blew up in the final and were lucky to avoid the overlap. Worth saying the GB were the only medalist that didn't make use of their substitute rider - probably not surprising given the substitute was Lauren Bell. Still a second-tier team was good enough to take a silver.   The Men's Team Pursuit had a nightmare day. Having crashed in the first qualifying run, they did enough on the rerun to get to the 1st round where they did step up and qualify for the bronze medal match. They kept it close against China for the first half before fading pretty badly to finish 4th.   I was a bit surprised that the Women's Team Sprint were beaten by China. They were leading by 0.2 seconds after Bell and Finucane had completed their laps but it looked like Parris-Smith was just way too far back.   The standout was the Men's Team Sprint. I thought they were going to have to settle for the silver but somehow managed to pull it out of the bag in the final lap.        I definitely picked the wrong section of the crowd though - caught between two competing locals. One vocally anti-China, accusing them of cheating and booing every time they were on the track. At one point he was singing God Save the King and Rule Britannia. In the end he was asked to leave.    Biggest cheer of the night was for  Lee Sze Wing's silver in the elimination race.
